Generally walk rates rise when a pitcher goes from AAA to the majors.
Maybe AAA umps don't correctly call his curve for strikes bc it's so good. Maybe I'm reaching...

Kid's doing great so far.
But...
2017 major league BABIP .250
2017 AAA BABIP .304
2016 AA BABIP .303
File it away.

Newcombs low BAA in the minors should have told us this is what he is. Kid looks great so far.
Shouldn't we expect BABIP to be higher in the minor leagues?
Good to hear good things from those that watched the game
I saw MLB tv highlights. Looked like Meyers hit one out. Sybarite hit one out that kemp caught. One k on a high fastball that was only 91.
Left handed just seem to play up velocity
Sounded like the walk was an 8 pitch walk.
Internsting that he's had this good of results and he's not really been as described in milb. Was he just trying to get promoted with radar gun numbers? Numbers were wrong?
Iirc we are measuring velocity different this year in MLB so everyone gets a mph or so extra. So he blew a high fastball by at what would have been 89-90
I know sd is bad and they k a lot but still
Facing the Giants and Padres the last two games has helped. He's pitching well though.
He's been throwing strikes. I think the credit belongs mostly to him. Not to the umps.
What I like is that his misses are not by a lot. He is around the zone and when you couple that with flowers he is going to get a lot of generous calls. We need to extent flowers.

welcome to the late bloomer bandwagon
How many hits a game is a .250 BABIP to a .310. 2, 3? I don't know.
Is he an annual or prennial.
lets say during 6 innings he has six strikeouts...the other 12 outs are registered on balls in play...12 times .06 is equal to .72 ...so rounding up 1 hit per 6 innings
Newcomb will see a challenge in his next start vs. Houston, so I'm looking forward to watching that.
and Colon is scheduled to pitch against them too!
...assuming he gets a second start
Who knows... maybe if Colon stymies San Diego tonight and throws a quality start vs. Houston, other teams may be interested. Of course, he would have to have e2 other great starts after the all-star break. One can only hope, but I'm not holding my breath.
It's risky but I would certainly investigate that option. Lucroy was this guy as of last year and has completely fallen off in all areas. Such is the life of a catcher.
