7/6 GDT: Atlanta Braves (40-43) vs. Washington Nationals (50-34); Freddie at 1B

Lol as the rain approaches it fizzles. Well played Nats. I'm sure it's raining but not very hard. Maybe a little harder than a drizzle.

Adding his Japan League hits (1278), Ichiro now has . . . 4330 total hits in professional baseball.

Pete Rose ---4256

Ty Cobb - -- 4189

Hank Aaron -3771

Carry on.

This seems like it may be factual. Rose does have 400+ minor league hits.

Mallex is not better than Kemp. Braves really got Kemp for a discount rate. Luiz Gohara was a nice pickup that hopefully will be in ATL soon. We really have to wait to see who won this trade and was it the right move.

The Padres paid the Braves to take Kemp, which is indeed a discounted rate.

Gohara looks interesting. I don't know if he'll ever make it but he and Alex Jackson were pretty reasonable acquisitions.

The Mallex/Ender choice was an interesting one. Ender might have fetched more value, but on the other hand he's the better player and Braves had plenty of control. Weren't going to be able to play them together, I don't think. Maybe the Braves should have forced Markakis and Kemp to sit regularly and used Mallex as PH/defensive replacement on the other days. That's probably what I would have done.

It would be poetic justice for us to get through 5 innings when the rain starts that takes Gio out of the game.

"Manager Brian Snitker, who only has an option for 2018, deserves to have that option picked up. Snitker is a lame-duck manager, but he should have his status raised with a reward for not only his loyalty but also a job well done. Snitker’s status seemed somewhat in question earlier but there’s little question he’s earned that next year. The Braves have multiple excellent managerial candidates on their staff – including Bo Porter and Ron Washington – but Snitker has earned another year." - jon heyman

Oh brother. Heyman is an old school writer who must enjoy old school managers.

Easy to endorse Snitker when looking at our record/low expectations, but when you watch every game you realize how horrible of an in game manager he is. We win in spite of a ton of his decisions. I'm sure he is a fantastic guy but I hope he has the decency to step away at the end of this season or I hope the front office has the balls to get rid of him.
