Official 2017 Trade Deadilne Thread

Braves will be hard pressed to find a better bet to eat 200 innnings for $8M next year. Whether or not that's needed is certainly open for debate.

Camargo has a mediocre .776 OPS due do a completely unsustainable .397 BABIP. He is not an everyday player at 3b for a team with the goal of being a fringe WC contender in 2018.

Pozzies need to stop thinking these players are more than they are just because they play for the Braves. Camargo is a utility player on a good team, or a starting SS on a bad team. That's what he is, and no amount of homerism changes that fact.

The Braves need to fix 3b this off season. It's time to get a 2+ win guy over there and stop with these silly experiments with below average players. The resources are there, and the need has clearly been present for years with no real solution currently in the organization.

Please give us the source of your "fact." I suspect this is just your latest example of forming a conclusion, then trying to cherry pick "facts" that support it. How very Democratic of you.

Several folks have already explained it. His .400 BABIP is unsustainable. When it drops into the .300 range his OPS will be well under .700.

It isn't overly complicated.

What have I been wrong about? Kemp? Adams? Sale trade? Newcomb? Braves overall record? What?

It's sad that in 2017 people don't understand the effect of a 400 BABIP and why it's not sustainable.

It's fine that folks don't understand it. There is nothing wrong with not caring about the advanced stats behind the scenes. Just wanting to enjoy the game in the field is perfectly fine.

What's sad is that folks insist on arguing a factually incorrect position based upon complete and utter ignorance.

First of all, the Braves should be an 80-85 win team next year. There is no reason to sell assets under control for next year. The window is opening. The time for unloading everyone is over.

If the Braves were to sell off all expiring assets, they will be replaced with internal options who are still good enough that the Braves won't be getting a Top 5 pick anyways. Worst case scenario is they trade BP then promote Albies, or trade Garcia and "see what they have" with Allard or Soroka.

Keeping those guys in place just to prevent them from needlessly starting the clocks of the top prospects is worth more than they will get in return.

Unless a package of vets gets a solid prospect back, keep them all. The Braves don't need more fringe prospects, and they won't make themselves bad enough to get a Top 5 pick anyways.

All the expiring contracts should definitely go. The coda to that is that the FO needs to be disciplined enough not to waste service time of the young guys.

If you trade J Garcia, you could replace him with Medlen. If you trade Teheran, you could replace him with Sims. If you trade Dickey you could replace him with Wisler or Blair. There are pitchers who could come up to "see what we've got" and it not be a disaster.

And, I honestly don't see the Braves at 80-85 wins next year unless they bring in a real 3B and maybe another starter or two. Freeman and Inciarte are playing about as well as they can right now. To expect much more from them next year is asking too much IMO. And, guys having decent to good years (or even bad years) like Flowers, Kemp, Markakis, etc. are unlikely to repeat performance next year. In other words, catching and OF will likely be worse in 2018, not better. The rotation will be full of young guys who will be finding their way.

They should have 35 million plus in salary coming off including Phillips, J. Johnson, and Dickey's hopefully declined option.

Johnson is on the books through 2018.

Joel Sherman wrote a column saying the Tigers should put Michael Fulmer on the block now since they're heading towards a rebuild. If we are intent on trading for a controlled starter in the next year or so, I wouldn't be opposed to him being the guy. He's under control through 2022.

I honestly worry about that but I'm hoping we won't see 19 yo on outlet bad team

I'm hoping comargo, srod , medlen, sims and Micah Johnson steal the time from Adams Phillips Garcia and maybe a corner in my dreams.

I think albies is coming up at roster expansion and that won't impact anything.

I think deciding on sims as a starter or rp is a witletghole use of ten starts

Solarte would be pretty budget friendly and he's at least young and the options are in the team's favor. But I can only imagine that the Padres would want something much more valuable than the Marlins would want for Prado.

I personally almost don't see the point in Prado. He's 33 and fairly expensive at 13.5 m in 2018 and 15 m in 2019. He's been a better player than Solarte at points in his career but he's older and more expensive. In some respects though he would fit the Braves dual timeline. He can probably be acquired for less than a premium prospect and he comes off the payroll at the same time as Kemp, which seems to be the real point at which the Braves next run should start.

Red Sox need a third baseman and apparently have asked about Prado. I'm sure they will pay the contender's premium. We shouldn't try to compete. My thinking though is that once the Sox get their man, the market for a third baseman might soften a bit.

I saw one idea where (assuming Freddie stays at 3B) a deal around Fulmer + Miggy with half of his contract covered. Don't think I'd do it, but definitely interesting to think about.

I know. This is anticipation of trade that may not happen.

I kinda like the thought of Fulmer to be honest - he, Julio, and Folty set up your 1-3 for a good while. Hold Newcomb and Wright and that's a really strong staff for the foreseeable future.

The problem is that they'll need the moon for him given what it sounds like their asking price for Verlander is. I wouldn't go near Miggy's contract personally, but wonder if Coppy would be interested in taking on J-Up's deal to get Fulmer. While it's really off-the-wall, could we get Kemp into the deal to give them some protection for Cabrera when Martinez (J. D.) is gone? They'd rid themselves of $52.6 million of Upton's money and still have a middle of the order consisting of Miggy, V-Mart, Kemp - with V-Mart coming off the books when the big free-agent class drops and Kemp could DH and come off the following year.

Certainly not likely, but fun to think about. Say Kemp, Allard, Anderson, Fried, and Peterson (Dustin) for Fulmer and J-Up.

All of a sudden you'd have just about all the pieces (and bridges to future pieces) in place with Fulmer, Ender, and Swanson controlled through 2022, Freeman, Upton, and Folty through 2021, and Julio through 2020. Albies takes over for Dat Dude next season with Newcomb replacing Garcia in the rotation. Pick up Dickey's option to fill out the rotation - one of Wright or Soroka steps in by 2019 (if not before), and Acuna replaces Markakis along the same timeline.

If you could somehow pull that off, then I'd have to seriously consider adding Moustakas this winter - that club would be a legitimate contender IMO.

Real pie-in-the-sky stuff, but fun to dream on.
