AcuñaMania

What made you pick Strawberry out of curiosity?

Just brainstorming about the best position players/prospects of the past 40+ years who did not attend college. As you can see from my comps so far, Ronald fares very well when pitted against Trout, McCutchen, and Straw. Andruw and Harper have him beat.

Here's another comp: Alex Rodriguez

A-Rod stats at 19 in AAA: .360 AVG, 15 HR, 12 2B, 3 3B, 2 SB, and an 18.5% K%. .411 OBP and .654 SLG. 237 PA.
Acuña stats at 19 in AAA: .263 AVG, 3 HR, 4 2B, 0 3B, 2 SB, and a 21.2% K%. .354 OBP and .491 SLG. 66 PA.

Obviously A-Rod is superior at this point. If we scale Ronald's numbers at the same production rate, he'd have 11 HR and 14 2B with 237 PA.

Still a ways to go for Ronald this year, so we'll see if his luck on batted balls improves and thusly raises the AVG, OBP, SLG, etc.

I think Acuña is great, but there's one guy I won't comp him to: Bo Jackson.

Jackson, for my money, is the greatest athlete of all-time and would have been a top 2 baseball player OAT had he solely focused on it and not dealt with injuries and the distractions of football.

Bo missed the 1984 seaon with a separated shoulder, but here are his stats for his age 20 season at Auburn in 1985: .401 AVG, 17 HR, 9 SB, .500 OBP, .864 SLG. 147 AB. 1 HR per 8.6 AB.

Barry Bonds age 20 season at Arizona State in 1985: .368 AVG, 23 HR, 11 SB, .447 OBP, .713 SLG. 247 AB. 1 HR per 10.7 AB.

I laugh when people say Trout is the GOAT.

Trout is on track to be the GOAT. Jackson, or someone else, could have been the guy, but they're not. Trout is. Silly argument that's just plain wrong.

Nobody is saying Trout IS the greatest of all time.. but that he is the greatest in this era and COULD become the greatest of all time. Unfortunately, you have to play to become great. Bo didn't play and therefore, IS NOT THE GOAT..

I feel confident that Trout at worst will be the best player since Barry Bonds.

Mike Trout can never be the GOAT. Ever. I don't care what the stats say.

Bo Jackson had more talent in his pinky than Mike Trout has in both hands. And I like Trout, ftr. He's awesome when he's stealing bases.

Harper > Trout

:)

I'll a career line of .307/.408 with incredible CF defense over .286/.389 with solid RF defense all day.

Bryce's talent is immense and he just may be better one day, but it's not even close right now.

Potential doesn't equal results.

AcuñaMania has reached national proportions. I REPEAT: AcuñaMania has reached national proportions.

1. Ronald Acuna, OF

Braves • Triple-A Gwinnett

HR: 15. SB: 35. Age: 19.

The speed with which Acuna has adapted to higher levels of play is startling. He spent just 40 games at low Class A last season in an injury-truncated year, but that didn’t stop him from rocketing to Triple-A this year in mid-July. Acuna fits the five-tool paradigm and has star potential.

pretty much this. I'm not sure what the argument for Harper over Trout would even be???

Matt Eddy, the author of that Baseball America piece, referred to Ronald as a "wunderkid" on Twitter.

That is Trout/Harper/Andruw language.

JMHO... A silly argument to have. Either one would be a huge sign, and barring injury, probably worth the contract. (This coming from someone who is generally not in favor of huge FA contracts)

You're definitely right. Both guys would be worth the money. They're generational talents for sure.
