The Trump Presidency

Respect for the flag. We are Americans.

Are, for example, the NFL protesters disrespecting the flag or are they using that symbol as a flashpoint to bring attention to their ultimate ends? What else would you suggest they do?

Why not reinforce their right to protest, rather than attacking them? That seems like it would be the more orthodox lover-of-freedom's response.

You are cultivating a generation of anarchists. Looks at the recent polling numbers on the youths attitudes towards free speech as well as violence. You reap what you sow.

What did the President's remarks add to the conversation on free speech? And who mentioned violence? We're talking about non-violent--in fact, mostly non-verbal--protest.

and lost in Trumps words is the fact another policeman was this week acquitted in the shooting a young black person

and he still hasn't mentioned Puerto Rico

I support the NFL players protesting the anthem, absolutely. Trump should stay out of it or at least ask for a thoughtful discussion on it.

Both he and Obama have failed on race issues

Respect for the flag. We are Americans.

**** your flag. And **** your warped, enforced patriotism.

That flag, and being "American", obviously mean very different things to you—who think an entire people worthy of extermination—than they do to me. Despite the US's bucket of sins, I can at least still squeeze out some measure of optimism from that symbol—some sense that we might actually be stuttering and tottering towards inclusive and fair-minded security of life, liberty, and happiness across these stolen and blood-washed lands—and, alongside, some measure of cultural/national redemption.

For you, it's obvious that life means not being aborted, but no guarantees, or even much effort, beyond that; liberty extends only to those you deem worthy; and happiness is tantamount to rank avarice. **** that America, and **** any flag that would stand for it.

Because people equate white supremacism with David Duke, et al, because it helps them sleep better at night.

Because it's easier not to even consider what white supremacism means, and has meant, in practice.

Because it's apparently easier to speak up for your friends who own NFL franchises than to consider what it's like for the people who earn millions for those same folks, who have the audacity to recognize that they and those who look like them are one traffic stop away from being jail-bound *******.

White supremacism doesn't wear a sheet. It walks among us in polite society. Let's applaud the people who risk their livelihood to transmit this message, rather than condemning them.

Kap's mom said it pretty clearly. Why does he equivocate about white supremacists in Charlottesville while clearly calling out peaceful protestors in the NFL?

Yes he has.

Several several several times

I take that back. If you look at the below tweet Trump references PR several times. Twice in the 1st line and once in the 4th.

He even includd a PR in his avatar.

So yes, he did mention PR several-several-several times

If a player wants the privilege of making
millions of dollars in the NFL,
or other leagues, he or she should not
be allowed to disrespect....

LoL at the "privilege" of being a pro athlete.

Like, if you want the privilege of watching the best professional athletes compete, you might have to put up with the occasional opinion.

but seriously

Number of POTUS tweets today attacking black athletes: 3

Number of tweets today abt US citizens in Puerto Rico w/out water, electricity: 0

Home sick today and have watched a slew of Trump tweets and none about Puerto Rico.

It is adorable how you a "Libertarian" is quick to defend his honor

https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump

yes, Tuesday he mentioned Puerto Rico.

In that time he has said more about crooked HRC

I am quick to defend honesty. Which you rarely post.

I watched an entire press conference on CNBC Thursday where devoted 10 min to PR and the devestation

I know it's fun to get your little hot takes in but it's unnecessary. There is plenty to critique legitimately

Since Tuesday he has said more about Crooked Hillary than Puerto Rico.

Today he has said more about Steph Curry than Puert Rico

Yesterday he said more about Colin Kaepernick than Puerto Rico

That is the record.

You can look it up

What did Gary Johnson say ?

Trump's views on peaceful protest are essentially un-American. Professional athletes, and not just those of color, have huge and thus far untapped potential to bring about social change. Would love to see them get organized and all take a knee someday. Sunday works for me.

Trump is making another unforced error attacking athletes this way, imo. With a little political skill he could easily use them to bolster his popularity and make himself seem more normal and presidential. His inability to do this simple, beginner's level skill for a politician just highlights how unprepared and unfit he is for his job.

I have to disagree. Trump is actually making a really smart play here (I don't think it's intentional). The left is stuck defending how awesome it is to disrespect the national anthem and the American flag. Also, in case you haven't notice folks are insane when it comes to Trump. He's not going to bolster his overall popularity. I mean, Ellen won't have him on her show because of the way he treats gay people or something.

This is Trump's Katrina moment. Why are there not 4 navy vessels in Puerto Rico providing food, water, shelter and evacuation?
