Megathread: Braves lose Maitan, Bae and 10+ plus International Sanctions.

Rumor from Shanks is this: The punishment is a 2 year international ban then a 50% reduction in international spending for 5 years. Says Braves keep Maitan.

5 years surprises me, but it’s pretty much what I expected.

If this is true MLB clearly prefers to punish the Braves without dumping a bunch of new FAs on the market and setting that precedent.

I’m guessing that it’s 5 not 7 years. Still this is really excessive. International signings have always been the Wild West.

Source? Shanks didn’t put this on Twitter so I’m curious where you heard this supposed rumor

Braves are not losing Kevin maitan but your going to wish they had. Based on what bill shanks just read on his program MLB will violate their collective bargaining agreement if they make maitan a free agent. However the penalty might be a two year ban on signing any international free agent plus 5 years at only 50% of money allowed for all teams to spend

Not sure how true it is since it's facebook. But there.

It's based on a faulty premise. It would absolutely not violate the CBA for them to declare our contract with Maitan invalid if we agreed to it when he was underage. We quite obviously did, so who the **** knows?

It’s not really a contract if it’s not enforceable. If the contract was signed and became valid at 16 it wasn’t a contract before then regardless of any handshake agreement before then.

From Gammons:

When the sanctions against the Braves are revealed and they lose some international signings, one member of the organization who had nothing to do with the violations says that an example is that one Asian infielder that was signed got a $300,000 bonus that kept them within the allotment borders, but he was promised another $300,000 in 2018 that would have been paid under the table. They also expect to lose infielder Kevin Maitan, who received $5M, but the new order Braves are not concerned, feeling Maitan was no worth the money or the hype.

By “New Order Braves” I guess he means AA?

The reports from Shanks and Gammons are not even in the same universe. Not sure what to believe. Not sure BS is wrong here. (Didn't think I'd say that.)
