Stanton

I think this offseason has been miserable, so far, as a Braves fan, but I guess it could always be worse to be a Marlins fan. Finally, new ownership ... that still wants to gut a team that has a pretty decent core. Oh, yeah, and your franchise player that is on a relatively affordable contract (for a stud, perennial MVP caliber player)? He's gone too.

Miami should be a sufficiently great market for a MLB team. Amazingly, collective idiocy continues to suffocate that ideal.

Stanton for Castro and lower level prospects. Castro helps compensate for Stanton’s salary.

That means the Marlins will have to shed even more payroll.

This turned into a disaster for the Marlins.

Not hard to move Castro. I think they will go the full rebuild. Ozuna and everyone else will be traded if there is a good offer.

What about Castro/Prado/Ozuna? Does that make sense? Prado is the backup for all 4 IF positions. Castro can play second while Albies at SS so Swanson can go to AAA?

How much surplus value to we have to come up with in that deal? Is it over 30M?

Scariest part about this mess that hasn't been mentioned yet (if you're not associated with the Yankees or are one of their fans)...

They now turn around and package Frazier, Florial, and Andujar and go get Archer. With all the money they have coming off the books next year they could then play on Machado and leave Gleyber at 2B.

Yea, feel like they should immediately try and flip Castro. He has a very reasonable contract, coming off of a 2 WAR season. Should be able to get good value.

The value is mostly from Ozuna. Maybe Wright or Soroka would do it.

However, as I noted elsewhere our prime window is likely to be 2020-2021. Between the expirations of the Kemp and Freeman deals. Ozuna is a free agent after 2019.

I think we are close now. Obviously Gohara is a potential 4-5 WAR pitcher but Newcomb took a step forward last year IMO. I think overall we are underrated our starting pitching. Teheran will have a better year by default. Maybe not good but certainly better than last year. I have no clue with Folty so lets say he is the same. Our 5th starter competition includes all capable arms and one that I think is capable of much more than BOR type results.

You add Ozuna into a lineup that includes Ender/Albies/Freeman/Acuna/Flowers/SS/Camargo then you are looking a very productive offensive group.

Its why I've always been for bolstering the bullpen.

Why wouldn't that team be a high 80 win team or maybe even better?

The minor leaguers #Marlins are getting are Jorge Guzman and Jose Devers, who is Rafael Devers' cousin.

Yankees get the reigning MVP plus $30M in cash after his opt out (something I’ve suggested for months) for a guy they were looking to get off the roster to clear room for younger players and some lower level prospects who are so inconsequential they weren’t mentioned until after the fact.

This is a huge win for the Yankees.
