2017 Winter Meetings Predictions, Rumors, And Actual Happenings

It's fun watching every single player that could upgrade the Braves go to other teams.

Rumored return is Yairo Munoz, a FV 40 3B.

Are we supposed to believe the Braves couldn't use an average player in LF for that price?

Are we supposed to believe the Braves couldn't use Headley at 3B when he was given away?

What exactly happened to Piscotty last year where he was so awful? The Cardinals are smart organization, they wouldn't just give up a talented player for free.

From the best I can tell, he basically just stopped getting lucky on infield hits.

His xwOBA the last 3 years was .360, .345, .337, so he's stayed pretty level talent-wise.

His xwOBA - wOBA delta went from being slightly lucky in 2015/2016 (-0.003 and -0.009) to being pretty unlucky in 2017 (0.018). That change in luck was mostly driven by production on poorly hit grounders (classified as Poorly/Topped quality of contact). He likely isn't ever going to get that lucky on infield hits ever again, and will probably run a BABIP closer to .300 than .320+, so a .750 OPS and 1-2 wins is the most reasonable projection for him.

He isn't a great player by any means. He probably isn't even a good player. He is an average player signed to a reasonable deal, and that's precisely why the A's are in on him. The Braves have 2 OFers who will produce a combined negative WAR next year, and they could desperately use a few average players signed to reasonable deals...especially when they are being given away (like Headley).

I absolutely cannot imagine Yelich wanting to stay, unless he loves it in Miami. The Marlins will not be a contender possibly for the near future.

I can’t believe we are this deep in the off-season and have not done a damn thing outside of trade Johnson. This is terrible

AA said from the get-go he was going to move cautiously - especially concerning our top prospects.

Not playing on Headley certainly seems odd (although he may still be trying to get him from the Padres) and if the A's get Piscotty for the rumored return that's a bit of a head-scratcher, but not backing up the truck to get Yelich (yet) and not breaking the bank to sign Moose or get in a bidding war over Frazier shouldn't be surprising.

Not really sure what kind of realistic expectations people have. He's not in a position to go nuts just yet.

Considering the returns on Ozuna and Stanton, maybe it wont cost the moon for Yelich.

AA needs to call while they're giving them away.

If the return for Ozuna is really Grichuk, Alcantara and Flaherty, the Marlins got almost exactly Ozuna's projected surplus value.

The Stanton situation was so odd it's a little hard to blame the Marlins for how it shook out. They quite literally had zero leverage in trade talks. Stanton was always going to go wherever he wanted out of a few teams that could afford him. That was a given the moment he signed that deal.

DOB: #Braves GM Anthopoulos said not much activity today, no advancement on potential trade or signing, but did learn a player in whom they're interested is available via trade, which they weren't sure would be case (not Yelich; not a player who's been mentioned publicly, AA said)

Intriguing.

Interesting, wonder who and/or what position that could be.

Teams have asked about Duvall as well as Hamilton. Braves are among teams on Duvall. Nothing hot at moment. #reds
