define "very valuable."

come to think of it, if pache doesn't hit at all, his bat could end up looking like peraza's. except it seems he'll be a great defender while peraza isn't.

Yeah. That would make Pache a 4th outfielder/defensive sub. Hopefully he's more then that but that's probably his floor if the defense is that legit.

yep, his bat could pretty easily end up like peraza's. which just reinforces the "pillar floor" as silly.

A couple 3+ WAR seasons before hitting free agency.

Don't you know... Every thread has to evolve into a personal pi$$ing match with Enscheff trying to show how stupid someone else is. Of course he has a few favorite targets... like anyone who dares to be optimistic.

I drop by about once a month to see if anything has improved...it's remarkable how any thread of more than a page or two devolves into a personal pi$$ing match with the guy. Disappointing. Very unpleasant.

I'd like to talk some Braves baseball, but not with that guy tearing people up and acting like he does.

Life's too short. Back to lurking.

He'd better hurry up and improve then. he was a negative last year. how many guys go from being a negative *over a full season to 3+ WAR? even at 23...

doesn't have on base skills, doesn't play great defense, no power..one 3+ fWAR season would surprise me.

Some of us could stand to help by joining you - just not in our nature I guess.

Not I. But I never joined in with the next Derek Jeter hype. And I've won one bet involving him and have another lined up for the 2018 season.

The Jeter/Larkin comps were always silly.

I always pegged Swanson somewhere between Trammell and Jack Wilson, and I still think he ultimately falls in there.

NOt saying that this is the comp, but Brooks RObinson had a pretty rough start to his career. Some players do go from not much to greatness. I think the best modern example is eithe Chase Utley or Jason Bay who didn't earn starting gigs until their mid 20s. For ****s and giggles to the point Bay had a negative WAR season between 2 3+

Good points. Even if you give young players the benefit of additional seasoning at the AAA level, the big leagues are in a different galaxy of play and adjustments need to be made (again and again and again . . .).

Ditto. I'm in the same boat.

That's one hell of an outcome range, but I'm also amused at the idea that it's silly to throw out Jeter comps, but Trammell felt realistic enough.

Yeah, I mean....Utley just wasn't called up but it's not like he wasn't hitting well in the minors. i don't really see how his situation is comparable. or bay's situation, who put up a 1.2 fWAR his first season (albeit at 25). i guess those just seem like random examples to me. peraza doesn't have any carrying tool. dude will have to hit like .320+ to reach 3+ war.

of course he can adjust. i'm just saying, guy has a billy hamilton bat without billy hamilton speed and defense. getting to 3-war will be a big challenge for someone with his profile. i have more faith swanson will have a couple 4+ WAR seasons.

Agreed. Trammell was my top end tehteh comp.

I know it's hard to fathom, but among the general population I am a pozzy Brave.
