GDT: Giants @ Braves 5/4

Tucker optioned for Joey Bats.

I speculated that might happen a week or so ago here: http://www.chopcountry.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8048&page=17&p=484948#post484948

"BTW, I wouldn't be surprised if Tucker is demoted for Joey Bats since RF and Joey can both play OF too."

That said, I had hoped his success pinch hitting of late would help his cause to stay. But obviously it didn't, probably because he had an option remaining where Culberson did not. Swanson wrist situation could've played a part in the consideration too. I also think AA wants Joey Bats to DH in the AL games and if Tucker were around for that series Snit might be tempted to get both some AB's at DH.

A number of us guessed right about Friday being the day too.

Tucker will be back up. Soon as a position player who isn't a catcher gets hurt.

I can't believe that Culberson wasn't DFAed. AA must really like him.

AA really likes his plus defense at short, same as I do. AA knows that defense at short is very important. The only reason Camargo played short yesterday is because if you are starting him at short the next few games while Swanson is out, then might as well keep him in that one spot than make him go back and forth between games. That was my guess anyway.

That said, Culberson still might get DFA'd at some point but I don't think AA is ready to just give him away to the Dodgers, etc.

Yes, he will probably need the AB's too since he would only be pinch hitting with us. I could also see us trading RF at some point if we are not going to play him much.

Yeah Tucker recalled per MLB.com

Wow, that was fast. I guess Swanson's wrist turned out worse than they thought.

The Braves didn't wait long. Swanson was placed on the DL (sore left wrist) and Preston Tucker was recalled. Tucker had been optioned a couple hours ago to create a roster spot for Bautista.

Well, this probably means Swanson will need a rehab before he returns. So we should get to see Camargo play a lot at short while Swanson is out.

Kinda wonder if AA's got a potential taker for him and they're just trying to work out a return he likes.

Can't imagine it'd be much, but getting him in there yesterday might have at least baited the hook enough that someone else doesn't want to gamble that Charlie makes it all the way to them if he's DFAd and they're willing to give up a marginal fringe prospect/suspect.

Adding Gosselin yesterday gives you the obvious depth replacement for Culberson (that's already tucked away) if he has to be exposed, but maybe there's a "nobody" out there that one of Alex' guys likes enough to take a closer look at.

I have not scrolled past this post yet. I have a feeling it gets really really fun a few posts down.

So, we just wasted Tucker’s final option. Bang-up job FO.

Yea, if they thought Swanson might go on the DL soon. They should've made sure before using it. I reckon they expected to use it at some point this year anyway. But either way I wouldn't assume so in advance.
