2018 MLB Draft Thread

Jenista is the kind of hitter you want to take in the second round. Plus power. Some question marks about his position. But the guy has upside. And a bat with upside is what I wanted this round. Can't complain about our first two picks.

To me, the Braves just got the equivalent of Gorman without wasting the #8 pick on him.

Jenista was #27 according to FG, a FV 45.

Kinda looks like a Riley clone in the corner OF.

Sounds satisfactory.

Over .900 ops all 3 years of college. Here's his walk and k rates his 3 years at school...

Freshman = 14.7 bb, 12.9 k
Soph = 11.8 bb, 16.9 k
Junior = 19.2 bb, 15.7 k

He plays position: bat

Probably ends up being a useful MLB player if he can play defense anywhere other than 1B.

Jenista is a solid pick. Not as sexy a pick as Rocker would have been, but there’s a lot of power to be found in that bat and he’s supposedly athletic enough to at least play in a corner pretty well.

I can’t imagine Jenista is an underslot signing, so I’m going to go out on a limb and say we might be moving on to the Senior Signings portion of the draft in round 4

so call me stupid.. but how can someone have 3 - 55's and 2 - 50's and then still be a 50 overall.

Two scenarios. One, his tools average out to 53 and you always round down in the overall grade. Two, of the three tools he has a 55 in (power, run, and arm) only power really effects your value. Fielding is clearly superior to arm when talking about defense. And hit/power are clearly superior to run when talking about offense.

I project Jenista's ceiling as a decent bat off the bench for our AA club.
