Is Newcomb’s control not significantly better this year? 4.2 BB/9 vs 5.13 BB/9 is a lot different even if it isn’t good either way. I would bet on him ending in mid 4s. Also FIP/xFIP is better by .4, which is still significantly better

I don’t see anywhere where anyone has suggested his control isn’t better.

It still isn’t good enough to make a consistent impact in the rotation, and he is now racing against a decline in stuff as evidenced by his K rate dropping.

This is all textbook pitcher projection.

Hopefully they can go home and get it back going. This trip feels bad but 5-5 isn’t bad. Need this day off and come back with Albies leading off and Acuna or Narkakis hitting 2nd.

Markakis should hit first. It might be sacrificing doing the right things to get runs in but with the GDPs and a lot of failing to score of recent I'd sacrifice and have the better power potential behind him (not even just HRs, but extra base hits).

The sooner we get a situational lefty and someone like Solarte/Dietrich/Asdrubal Cabrera to give us some depth the better. Those two things will especially help us against the better teams.

It feels bad because it was started off with a sweep, the nice thing though was that sweep came in a place the Braves have issues playing in.

What doesn't feel good (Yankees series isn't very meaningful as it was an AL team but that series wasn't at all bad to be honest) is not looking very good at all vs a possible meaningful NL playoff team. Diamondbacks series is going to be pretty interesting too. Braves have played well vs the Cubs, Phillies, and Nationals as teams in it playoff wise. Not well vs the Dodgers or Brewers. Hopefully, even if it actually were a series loss, the Diamondbacks series can be added to the latter, and not the former.

Watching this series and the Yankees series makes me think that it won't be long before we see another steroid scandal.
