Score board watching

Looks like the Gnats will have Joe Ross pitch against Mike Montgomery in the makeup game against the Cubs. That will put Scherzer against the Braves Friday night. The rest of the Gnats pitchers are TBD, but we know it won’t be Strasburg in either game.

It’s more to do with the lack of a quality team behind them than it does with the Braves being good. Nice story and all, but until they win a playoff series it’s more of the same the last 15 or so years.

BS..this is the best team the Braves have had since the late 90s easily. Emphasis on "team." There may have been some that had more wins at the end of the day few have
been as cohesive a unit.

If you can’t see the Braves are a good team then you really don’t know baseball very well. Every measure says they are a good team and being 2nd to 3rd best team in the NL says so too.

So it sounds like you are one of those guys who doesn’t think playoff success actually matters. They can win 90 games and that is great. Fail in the playoffs again and what’s the point.

Dude, this team is at least one year ahead of schedule, and several of our best players are extremely young. This year is clearly different than a bunch of them in the last 15 years.

I don't understand fans like you. If you can't enjoy and get excited about a year like this, why even bother?

It's easier to understand when you think of Niners as less of a fan and more as a troll.

The 02, 03, 04, 12, and 13 teams were all better than this team, and I don’t think it’s particularly close with any of them.

Have to assume we'll see Nola and Arrieta twice each as well, plus potentially at least 2 of Wheeler, deGrom, and Syndergaard too.

I mean there is a real possibility the Braves win the division without getting to 90 wins at this point. This team is good but it has benefited from a lot of things going their way. And yes those teams were clearly better.

Those were some great teams- no question- but this team has something about it- similar to 91. You can just sense they know they are on the cusp of something big... and man are they fun to watch every night. So many unlikely stories... Neck having a career year, Folty finally showing up... the kids... especially the kids- Camargo, Albies, Acuna... Anibal pitching great- hell even Julio has been solid for the most part... and the way have bounced back from adversity- this past roadtrip for example...
Yes, a lot has gone right very right- but there are many games we can point to where we should have won and would have a much bigger lead now... the blown games against Boston, the Cubs game, the Rockies games we blew, etc.
I very much look forward to the playoffs- I honestly think we can beat anybody.

There have been times where not having the strongest team has really mattered, but on the other end of the spectrum, in the last two years, it has mattered, and it’s mainly been St. Louis and San Francisco who have done the deal of “We’re not the strongest team? We don’t care!”
In an NL where nobody stands out, the Braves certainly could make a push but a lot of it will be on anything can happen, young players having short memories and no fear, and there being no standout, dominant team. The AL is winning the World Series again, it’s probably just a matter of it being either Boston or Houston.

And have nothing to show for how good they were for the record.

A discussion full of arguments over intangibles with zero actual data to support any of it.

Must be an off day...

Sorry, those pennants mean something to us. But not much to the baseball world. Ask any baseball fan, not from the southeast and they will tell you the Yankees were the team of the '90s. We are about to become elite again. But this time we need rings.

So basically every season is an unequivocal failure unless you win the World Series? I don't like looking at sports like that, especially one as parity driven as baseball. If you are a team that was expected to win 78 games and you instead win 90, win your division, and make the playoffs, that season is a success. Especially when it comes via young controllable players turning in to superstars. Its clear that we have laid a foundation that will have us as World Series contenders for at least the next few years
