3 years 21M...very good signing for the Dbacks
Very reasonable price. Could easily be moved mid-season if everything falls apart and gives the Diamondbacks a back-up plan at a number of positions if guys leave through free agency/trade.
makes me think Peralta is unlikely to be available at a reasonable price

Does this make Lamb expendable? Not sure we'd want or need him anyway.

I mean as currently constructed, they are still a solid team with a decent shot at the playoffs next year. So trying to go for it while you still have good players in their prime is admirable, even if short sighted.
Likely true. Escobar gives them insurance more in the case of Pollock leaving than in anything they might do with Peralta. Funny thing about Escobar is that when the Twins acquired him from the White Sox way back when, he was viewed as a glove-first SS. Turned out he wasn't a very good SS, but developed into a decent hitter who could play all over the diamond. Needless to say, James Taylor's Walking Man isn't his favorite song.

Quite possibly - but the good thing about this signing is it likely keeps Marwin's asking price from going through the roof. He obviously becomes the best super-utility option left on the free-agent market, but how much more than Escobar's AAV can he realistically ask for?
Escobar chose not to explore the market. I'm not sure this sets the market for anyone.
he's an option...I'd prefer a more versatile utility player like Marwin Gonzalez
