2018 Offseason And Targets

I just wish there was a better cOF available between Brantley's $40M and Harper's $400M. Someone in the $100M range AA could target.

I fear Brantley won't be enough of an upgrade in LF, and Pollock will be paid more by someone else to play CF. Hopefully a 3-4 win trade candidate like Yelich emerges.

Yeah just frankly not that interested in Brantley. He's not the same player he was before the shoulder stuff started and I don't see him being able to stay healthy for long

You'd have to think re-tooling rather than a fire sale.

true. that's a little tricky tho. they still have great players obviously. but if they trade one of kluber/carrasco, it clearly puts a huge dent in their pitching.

kluber is really cheap ($13M) for one more year before FA. carrasco makes $8M this coming season and has easy club options of $9M for 2020 and $9.5 for 2021. are either of those really that prohibitive for them? maybe they want to deal kluber before losing him? could we deal them some young cheap pitchers for Carrasco?

Scott Boras on Marwin Gonzalez, his client and famously versatile free agent, in a phone conversation a moment ago: “I want you to know Marwin has a new name. We’re calling him ‘Swiss G.’ He has a tool for every position on the field.” @MLBNetwork @MLB

You can count out getting Marwyn on a reasonable deal now.

The unfortunate thing for Gonzalez is that having Borass as your agent no longer guarantees that you'll be grossly overpaid.

Not sure why Borass spouting hot air in November would make one think Gonzalez is going to break the bank. He said J. D. Martinez was a $200+ million player about this time last year (Crasnick reported that on November 8th to be exact) - how'd that work out?

The highest paid "Swiss Army Knife" thus far is Zobrist at $14 million AAV - exactly how much more does he think he can get for someone likely not viewed by teams as an everyday player? He's extremely valuable in his role, sure, but it's not like teams are going to line up to bid on him to become their new 3B or LF or whatever.

Kluber has two club options after 2019.

The numbers on his salary seem inconsistent from site to site (I think he's hit some escalators), but reference has him at 17m (17.5m) (18m).

Carrasco reference has at 9.75m with a 9.5m option for 2020.

.......

My guess is they'll consider a huge offer on those two, maybe actually deal Carrasco?

But primarily, I think they are broadcasting they would be willing to do salary dumps on Kipniss, Encarnacion, Alonso, etc.

Cleveland could be an interesting trade partner if they decide to trade Kluber or Carrasco....we have the young controllable pitching they would probably be after.

However, Kluber is 32 years old, going into the final year of his deal if i'm not mistaken...he has consistently put up 200 IP with stellar ERA....however, how long can we expect him to hold up....anyone know his peripherals?

On a side note, he did win 20 games last season and is from Birmingham so there is the chance we could get an extension...the age still scares me a bit

If Lindor were available? I’d throw the bus at em to get that guy.

he's young, an absolute stud, and on a great contract. same for ramirez. FG listed them the two most valuable players in all of baseball. they aren't going anywhere at all.

wonder if it would be possible to take kipnis on along with carrasco to lower the price for the latter.

Not like he wasnt before.

Grandal, Kimbrel, Pollock, Harper, Corbin to get QO's, so far.

Deadline 12 AM tonight.

Well, I suppose this means we now know who the "TOR starters" everyone will obsess over for the next few months.

Anyone have a link to a non-moronic take on the Indians strengths/needs going into 2019?

They could use some position players, they have good pitching but can never have enough i suppose.

They need outfielders, multiple outfielders, and financial relief. Ender for Carrasco and Kipnis type deal could make sense.

Maybe for the Braves, we'd have to throw in a couple prospects. Carrasco is really good and on a good contract.
