2018 Offseason And Targets

Not that I disagree about wanting him (unless there are some very specific circumstances) but he also had the lowest BABIP of his career last year. If they took Julio/O'Day and kicked in a healthy amount of cash, I could certainly take him... with that cash thrown in, its much more likely he could be flipped considering he's a pretty good defender. I mean, he had an under .700 OPS and still put up 1.6 fWAR. I think going foward, he's most likely going to fall in the range of a 2.5-3.5 WAR player.

I didn't see your thought about Teheran and O'Day and money before posting mine.

Seagar was awesome in 2016. He's had bad BABIP luck sense then. The big issue I see is the 5% spike in K rate in 2018 that accompanied a drop in power.

Why would the M’s take back Santana. That doesn’t make any sense. Segura should be positive surplus and not require taking back a bad contract. Maybe the Faillies are sending a bigger package so they can desperately dump that contract.

They did say this wasn't a teardown (every sign pointing to the contrary). If they made the Haniger/Seager deal I mentioned, they'd have...

1B- Healy, 2B- Hernandez, SS- Crawford, 3B- Franco, LF- Mallex, CF- Gordon, RF- Williams, C- Narvaez, DH- Santana

Not great, but they wouldn't have torn everything all the way down to the studs and they'd have cleared a *elluva lot of money.

the phillies don't have the prospects to trade for haniger.

They do if they take seager back.

That said. I think they would take seager to get rid of Santana in the segura trade. Doubt they are targeting Haniger. They could still sign Machado and move Juan to second. Then address outfield however they want.

This is why I question whether they'd be smart enough (or in a position to after getting their fanbase all fired up with the stupid money talk), to spend that money to fill all their holes rather than signing the big name. Machado has put up 1.7 more WAR over the last 2 seasons than Haniger, but if you took the $30 million you'd save instead of signing him and spend it on Haniger, Grandal, and a closer instead and the $30 million you'd save by not signing Harper and spending it on a left-handed SP and Brantley or McCutchen, think how much better they'd be - PLUS they wouldn't be tied to ridiculous 10 year commitments.

I follow him. IF the Ms pay half his salary, he'll be easy to flip.

Seagar at 9-10m probably would interest a fair number of clubs.

Right. But if they pay half his salary ( Thus making him an easy trade) then the M’s would just trade Seager. So why would they attach Mitch. Basically we could just trade for Mitch and skip the whole seager part if he is easy to trade once they pay his salary.

I don't know the specifics on any deal they'd do so I don't know.... but half his salary paid would be an easy flip... I'm just telling you the only way I'd take him, not that it's going to happen

Yeah but you're talking about DiPoto...

I know but logically it doesn’t make sense. I wasn’t criticizing you. I would love Haniger too. But there should be no scenario where Seager comes with him. Just doesn’t make sense.

They paid for a chunk of Cano's contract, that didn't logically make sense to me looking at the package... not much DiPoto does makes sense to me

M's take back Teheran and O'Day and send 12m for 2020.

Braves on hook for full contact in 2021 and 2022.

What's the prospect package look like in that scenario?

I could argue this is defensible from Atlanta perspective though I wouldn't do it. I wouldn't him being possibly the 2nd highest paid player on the team at that point. But you could make a case for it.

Ms seem to have a 2 year rebuild window so they might do that with the money.

I would see what the price would be for Gordon/Haniger....Gordon owed around $41m over the next 3 seasons. Can play infield/outfield....

But then i'd take Inciarte and call Cleveland for one of their starters.

The Ms are so dumb they are being used by the Mets and Phils to unload stupid contracts. The Ms are so dumb they are rebuilding by taking on money while taking in very little future talent

Dipoto is gonna Dipoto, and the Ms are gonna be bad for a looooong time.

It would be nice to see AA strike here.
