2018 Offseason And Targets

If we can’t outbid 2/32 for Brantley what are we doing this offseason. This is a real head scratcher. That’s extremely reasonable

While the Markakis contract didn't play out as badly as it could have, I surely hope we'd only entertain having him back on a 1-year deal . . . and with the expectation that he's going to sit some against LHP. The latter part is a tough pill for a guy like Markakis to swallow.

While possibly true, Astros are a better team than the Braves and he can DH there. He cant in Atlanta.

Lot of dividing factors.

Wow. Brantley may have simply preferred the Astros, but if not, AA dropped the ball so hard. This was a no-brainer signing for that mine

I'm notoriously impatient, but I'm doing my best to not panic about not filling the LF spot. When is a good time frame to hit the panic button? Haha

When the Braves are unable to beat 2/32 for Brantley it’s a good time to start worrying about LF.

Like I said when I was here last, I've already prepared myself. If we don't make an OF trade, Nick Markakis will be manning RF and batting cleanup for 2019 for us, again.

And in all honesty, although Donaldson was a nice risk, that will make this offseason a disappointment. The Braves didn't really improve even if the pitcher acquired is nice, and the East around them dramatically did. Unless the kids take a bigger step, I'd expect a good step back if so.

Count me in the group that thinks Brantley may have accepted this deal over similar deals because of the Astros chances to make the WS.

Honestly though, I wonder the holdup is on a deal? Are we focused on Realmuto before we move on to LF? I mean surely Peralta can't cost much more than Newk straight up, or something like Fried, Ynoa, and A-Jax. I know we likely have to get creative to make some payroll fit, but damn. I would have expected at least one hammer to fall by now.

I'm starting to get nervous about the offseason, but I'm not in panic mode yet. I'm still fairly hopeful that AA has a couple of guys at cOF in mind that will make the team better. Probably through trade. But the Brantley signing has certainly put me in a nervous state.

The only 2 things I can think of here is Brantley chose the Astros over us and anybody else and AA had an OF in mind and is working on a deal for that player. If he is maybe we hear something before Christmas. JTR and Peralta would be the perfect outcome.

This, not in panic mode, and maybe Brantley preferred Houston since he can DH there.

Still some options out there (Castellanos, some Dodgers guys, Haniger possibly, and Peralta) mostly via trade. I guess Braves could get in Pollock's market but probably not. If Markakis is manning RF next year, then it's a failed offseason regardless of who else AA gets.
