Alex Anthopoulos favors hitting Acuña-Donaldson-Freeman at 1-2-3 for Atlanta, though he stressed lineup is the manager’s call.

“My opinion: Getting your best hitters the most at-bats makes the most sense.”

i understand wanting acuña in a run-producing spot like #4, but i also understand wanting him to have the most ABs.

Acuna is a monster on the base paths, gets on base a lot and tends to perform better when being aggressive... at least so far. Plus... if Inciarte can split the difference between 2017 and 2018 and Swanson takes a step forward, he could still see a lot of run producing situations.

So what are everyone’s thoughts about this signing?

I still like it.

Very high reward, relatively low risk.

I'm not sure that not signing him would mean that the Braves had signed multiple pieces that would end up giving them more bang for the buck. And I'm relatively sure it would have required more long term risk.

I feel somewhat comfortable that the Braves will end up making some more moves either this winter or next summer to shore up the remaining weaknesses.

still love it. No long term risk. Donaldson will be playing for a big contract and thats the best motivator. I think people will be crying about not being able to resign him. Better off getting a big year and a draft pick and let him move on.

I like it depending on subsequent moves it forces AA to make. If they end up with Duvall in LF and Camargo on the bench, suddenly I don’t like the JD signing so much. They have already somewhat punted C to accommodate JD, and it would be pretty lame if they ended up punting LF as well.

There is certainly merit to the plan of not commiting more than 1 year to a player with such a young roster, and the Mac/JD signing should have clued us into exactly how the rest of this offseason would play out for the Braves.

Loved the deal at the time of the move. Still like the move, but becoming more pessimistic about it....

Will not be too happy if it leads to us only bringing back Markakis in the cOF spot. If we get another impact player for cOF or JTR. then I am ecstatic about the deal...

Bowden was talking on XM last night that the Braves could easily get JTR right now if they wanted him. Then if Pollocks number fell low enough we could make a run at him...Adding Donaldson, JTR, and Pollock in the same offseason would be insane.

To be fair, the Braves could get 95% of all players right now if they wanted him.

I wonder if JD, JTR and Pollock makes the lineup too RHH heavy though.

Maybe, and in a division with deGrom, Syndergaard, Nola, Arietta, Scherzer, and Strasburg, it could be a factor. However, having McCann and Camargo as options off the bench, and adding a LHH to the bench could offset a little bit for late game match ups
