Now I'm wondering if Macharper sign before ST. That's only a week away. JTR will for sure be dealt by then so that he doesn't show up to ST for the fish and somehow get hurt. So we've got 8 - 10 days before teams start reporting, so we should hear something on JTR "soon"

Sounds like Boras may have finally found a team willing to drink the kool aid.

“San Diego brass sees Harper as a “business/marketing opportunity” and “may now lean” toward securing his services over those of Manny Machado, despite their obvious need at 3B and swarm of young, controllable corner outfielders.”

Any team stupid enough to view Harper as something more than a baseball player deserves whatever terrible contract they give him.

The Padres signing Harper or Machado. What a joke. The Padres are a bottom third payroll team. Peller is just trying to feel like a player in the market. The Padres pursuit of Harper is like the Braves pursuit of Lester a few years ago. All for show.

Unless they were given away, I'd pass on both, and the Pads would have to kick in a good bit of money on Myers.
Both players are very bad defensively and their offense just isn't good enough to overcome their defensive struggles. They both need to be traded to 1b needy teams and the Pads should sign Harper and Marwin to replace them.

This is not true, Renfroe had a 5 DRS this past season combined in RF/LF (not a negative at either position) while Myers had a 7 DRS combined in RF/LF last year. Myers OF struggles the year before were in CF. He is a good corner outfielder with a strong arm as the numbers show. But you are right about his contract, his contract makes a trade unlikely IMO. They are more likely to move Renfroe.

Kinda wish Liberty saw it this way.

I'm not even a Harper fan, but he's a helluva baseball player. Opportunities to get a guy this good and this young are few and far between.
Maybe if Liberty saw it the way the Pads say they do, they could take that contract themselves, separate from our budget.
Would set us up for a nice run of baseball...
