2018 Offseason And Targets

Pache is FAR more "available" in trades than Riley. Ender is signed through 2022 when Waters would be ready, and some services already are ranking Waters higher than Pache. There's not another 3B in the system behind Riley until you get to C. J. Alexander, and he's likely not going to be good enough defensively to stick over there.

If you trade Riley, you may well have no choice other than to spend big money on Donaldson next winter - Arenado may be close to an extension to stay in Colorado, and the Gnats will probably extend Rendon (possibly even if they bring Harper back, but almost definitely if they don't). That leaves you with Camargo (who AA apparently doesn't believe in as an everyday 3B) and Donaldson next winter if Riley's in Miami (or elsewhere).

That could end up being the equivalent of trading Mookie Betts for two years of Tucker Barnhart in the long term. We have plenty of time and different trade scenarios to worry about the future of 3B beyond this season.

Are you related to Pache somehow??? You're the only person on this planet that has EVER compared him to Mookie Betts.

I love Pache, but there is approximately a 0.001% chance that he turns into a player as good as Mookie Betts. He's not Ronald.

this is the one and only time pache will ever be compared to a potential mookie betts. pache has a better shot of never putting up a total career WAR equal to Betts’ season last year than he does of being mookie betts.

I'm being misunderstood. I'm just saying trading Pache could be foolish and extremely shortsighted for two years of JTR and could be the Adam Wainwright trade mistake of position players.

Pache is a great prospect because he's an elite defender with 70 grade speed. If he were merely a good defender with above average speed, no one would know his name.

In other words, he ain't Betts. If he became Billy Hamilton, we should consider ourselves lucky. Best case scenario for Pache is Lorenzo Cain, but even that is in the 1 percent range at this point.

I think you just described the current best offensive catcher in the majors as Tucker Barnhart and someone that’s been an unimpressive hitter in the low minors as Mookie Betts.

People are insane about prospects: exhibit 145.

I'd personally rather trade Riley than Anderson or Pache. I have somewhat of a bias towards plus defenders, so that influences my view of Pache > Riley. The Anderson spin rate concerns are a legit worry, but he is still a really nice prospect even with that priced in.

The Braves have big time organizational depth concerns at the mid to low levels of the minors. As a result, I think they should be very reluctant to trade the top guys at the A / AA level that still have multiple years before they need to be protected on the 40-man: Anderson, Waters, Contreras. They are much better positioned to trade pitching from the MLB / AAA level. Newcomb, Fried, Wilson, and Allard wold be the arms I'd be most willing to move.

If he becomes Hamilton, I’ll be highly pissed he wasn’t traded before now. Dude is hot garbage.

No and technically I said COULD be. There was a time when nobody even knew who Ronald Acuña was.

By the time Acuna was Pache’s age, everyone knew who he was.

However, yes, it’s logical to be hesitant to trade 6 years of Pache for 2 years of JTR. That’s why it’s likely fair value.

I never pretend to be some couch warrior amateur scout, so I have no opinion on Pache other than what I’ve read, but his value matches up pretty well as the centerpiece for JTR.

Anyone else a little thrown off my Mishs’ comments. He has talked Riley and Anderson all winter to the point where it sounded like at least Riley had been offered... now he is saying neither has been offered or the deal would have been done by now...?
