Having your best hitter definitely makes a difference. But it's not like the NFL or NBA where you have to have that guy. Who's to say Hanely hits well even if he was healthy? That's not even close to a given. Bonds is the best hitter most of us have seen and his teams were 2-7 in playoff series'.
Dodgers are much more loaded overall as a team and when you consider how close the games were having a great hitter like Hanley could have changed at least one of them. We couldn't get Hanley out last series. If he was hurt Braves probably are playing the Cardinals.
