One player that interested Marlins in Realmuto talks with Atlanta was Johan Camargo. Though he’s lost 3B to Josh Donaldson, Braves wanted to keep Camargo.

Great move to sign Kimbrel and you wonder if after the atlantic article that liberty might want to spend sole money to gove the braves faithful a cookie.

Bullpen would look real nice with craig in the 9th.

Having a really deep bullpen is a great way to support a young rotation and keep their innings down. He was still good for 2.3 WAR last year, and there's also this that I like

It also just pushes guys like oday/minter/biddle/sobotka/winker into the 5th-7th innings. Those are some damn fine arms for those innings.

Since Kimbrel was with a team that was over the luxury tax the Red Sox will receive a comp pick after the 4th round. Losing a 4th round pick is not that bad.

That’s not at all how pick compensation works.

The Braves lose their 3rd pick unless it’s protected. With any QO FA, for any amount of money. Period.

With/without Craig, the bullpen shapes up pretty well imo.

I'd say you have four locks in O'Day, Viz, Minter, Venters.

Then Sobotka, Winkler, Carle, Biddle, Webb, Freeman, Jackson for 3-4 spots, and guys like Wilson, Fried, Touki if no SP spot if they'd be in the pen.

It's certainly miles better than what we had to open 2018.

The locks are the guys who don’t have options.

I bet AA and McGurik are feeling the pressure of the fans. Their answers in the article seemed like they were tired of hearing about not doing anything.

Kimbrel would be a good pick up for this team. Would give us a fan favorite back and a closer to the back end of the game. As has been mentioned, everyone would move down a spot which would be good.

Someone else also mentioned an opener as an option for Teheran’s starts. I’d love to see Freid/Gohara go 2-3 innings, then bring in Teheran for as long as he can go.

The Braves have so many good arms that they would stand to benefit greatly from an innovative approach to pitcher deployment. They could use the Rays model, and ratchet it up to new levels of effectiveness.

Tried earlier to point this out-- would this work??

On a #Braves team with Freeman, Donaldson & dynamic young talent, veteran McCann and a coach from Phillies (!) could be determining factors in whether ATL repeats as division champs.

Correct. A Kimbrel signing would give them the flexibility to play around with who opens for Teheran. I like having a lefty with a good fastball open for Teheran who doesn’t have a good fastball. And theoretically, you could save the pen on those days by having two guys that could basically pitch the whole game if they are on

For me the only disappointment this offseason is in RF. I think we could have gotten a nice upgrade there. We needed to upgrade the bench and AA did that by signing Donaldson which moved Camargo to the super utility role he's best suited for. We have so many good young pitchers that I don't think a move was necessary there, although I bet we add a bullpen arm at some point.

Maybe we could have added an extra win here and there by using Donaldson's money elsewhere, but I'd personally rather lose that win and enjoy watching Donaldson hit as a Brave for hopefully most of the season.

As soon as you start listening to the fans, you're sitting with the fans.

You are correct. My bad. To many rules to remember.
But, I still think that if you can get a FA on a contract with some surplus value that loosing a third round pick is not that big of a cost.

If we could get Kimbrel for 3/45 I’d do it. It makes the game a lot shorter and makes a strong point even stronger. Minter could benefit from Kimbrel like Kimbrel did Wagner.

Look at it this way ...we have it to spend this year.

Next year the loss of Viz and O’Day frees up 15 mil (we also are done with Julio....another 12 million).

So....not only can we afford it...it would help stabilize the bullpen next year with most likely two key departures.

I’m warning up to it. It would have considerable risk, but would warm my heart to see Bmac, Venters and Kimbrel all back the same year.

I was thinking that to. ODay and Viz are both FA after this year so it would transition well with CK being in the fold.

I really think that’s the big ticket next offseason when the Castellanos, Ozuna and others are FA’s who we have discussed here.

They really need to simplify all this BS which we all think is coming based on this year’s lackluster free agency across MLB.

I’m not going to say with complete confidence Kimbrel will wind up signing with Atlanta, but with as long as this has taken for him to sign, it’s not going to be a surprise anymore. Especially with the report a couple weeks ago that said the Braves were “lying in the weeds” in regards to him. We’ll see how it turns out, but I’m in the belief if Boston wanted to resign him, they would have by now.n
