I’m not going to say with complete confidence Kimbrel will wind up signing with Atlanta, but with as long as this has taken for him to sign, it’s not going to be a surprise anymore. Especially with the report a couple weeks ago that said the Braves were “lying in the weeds” in regards to him. We’ll see how it turns out, but I’m in the belief if Boston wanted to resign him, they would have by now.n

If Boston wants to sign him, they will be crushed by the luxury tax....I think they were saying if they sign him for $17m-18m they would actually be paying ~$30m for him

Certainly seems to be some smoke. Idk why he would be in Orlando unless he just wanted to play golf with BMac or something

The speculation is running rampant on Twitter, but I really think this is just one of those coincidences. How many times have we seen something like this, got all excited, and nothing. The Braves are way too cheap and stubborn to sign someone. Much less the best closer to ever hit the free agent market. And especially after what AA and McGuirk said earlier this week. Plus our pen is already in good shape. I see absolutely no reason for us to sign Kimbrel. Everyone calm down and stop getting your hopes up, again.

I would go up to 7M on a one year deal for Kimbrel. But Norris makes more sense.

We got McCann for 2M and Muk for 4M. If playing for the Braves is important to Kimbrel he can show it by taking 7M.

Value uber alles.

I don't think the Sox have been bluffing about not bringing him back. They're really close to the top luxury tax number, and unless Kimbrel signed for nothing the penalties they'd have to pay for giving him anything close to $15 million per would be huge. Can't locate it at the moment (maybe someone else saw it as well), but there was an article within the last couple of days that detailed the numbers - if they signed him for $15 million, it would cost them in the $27 million (?) range by the time they paid all the penalties involved.

Doesn't mean AA's got the upper hand or is going to cave either, but I mentioned as soon as the McGuirk/AA interview came out that I could see a Kimbrel signing given all the current issues they're dealing with (tons of hacked-off fans) if and only if Craig's ask dropped to a reasonable 3 year deal.

Lots of good golf courses in Florida, and all his baseball buddies happen to be in the area - wouldn't read that much into it just yet. He's usually down there this time of year - could easily be a group of guys get together to play golf right after camps open every February. Wives could be taking the kids to Disney while the guys were playing golf.

Not a bad sign though.

Look at it this way ...we have it to spend this year.

Next year the loss of Viz and O’Day frees up 15 mil (we also are done with Julio....another 12 million).

So....not only can we afford it...it would help stabilize the bullpen next year with most likely two key departures.

I’m warning up to it. It would have considerable risk, but would warm my heart to see Bmac, Venters and Kimbrel all back the same year.

That is actually a pretty good way of looking at.

Though if internal options do not develop Braves would be shopping to replace those two leverage arms.

Interesting tidbit from Kimbrel through Freddi Freeman

As an aside, Kimbrel asked #Braves' Freeman if he wanted to play golf. Freeman asked him how long he'd be in town, and Kimbrel said he wasn't sure, that he didn't have a return flight booked.
