Not necessarily Machado. But they will likely trade one of the Meyers, Hosmer or Machado before the end of their contracts.

They still have a lower payroll than Atlanta with
the machado signing.

Smacks of what they did three months before their 180 to tank.

Hope you're not serious, it would cost alot more than Allard and a salary dump to even get them to listen on Tatis if he's even available.
 
Heyman- Padres are pulling off one surprise (once Manny’s finalized) but here’s another shocker : they aren’t ruling out Bryce Harper, too. 110M payroll (with MM) is still lower than most.

That list would start and stop with Acuna.

Why on earth would anyone mistakenly believe they'd trade Tatis at this point? He's not blocked. He or Machado plays SS, the other plays 3B.

Machado likely goes back to 3B - part of why they gave him the money.

Yep, Hosmer-someone-Tatis-Machado once Tatis gets called up. He's not available for trade.
 
Go for it Friars. I love this for their fans. I am all for them spending to get two great players smack in the middle of prime years. They are bucking the trend of building either by farm or FA. They have both if they get Harper too.

That's the beauty of the whole thing - hope they get Harper too. They won't, but that's OK. The Padres have now spent more money on free-agents in the last two years than ANYBODY - Yankees, Red Sox, Dodgers, whomever.

Is it smart based on the metrics? Of course not. It's great and exciting for their fans though - their ownership and management is trying to win for them.

Who gives a *hit about whether it fits the new model? Being concerned about that entirely misses the point of being a fan - it doesn't make you wrong, it just makes you a lot less fun to be around a lot of the time.

I dont think padre fans were fun to be around last year when they signed Hosmer. Vert short sighted when it seems they have intentions when trying to get Machado and harper a year later.
 
It's good for basball when there are dumb GMs who give out insane contracts. Hope Harper bends the Phillies over backwards or someone else signs.

Harpers probably going to Philly and probably gonna top Machado's offer, Boras is just trying to get every last cent out of them.
