Mississippi is one of the worst educated states in the country...also one of the fattest...also one of the ****tiest as far as quality of life. the south as a whole is, objectively, worse in those categories than the north as a whole. why would you compare a whole state to a city, anyway?
Mississippi is a weird state. The delta region is basically a third world country while south, central, and northeast Mississippi is relatively on par with the rest of the states in the south. And as far as quality of life is concerned, its debatable depending on what metrics you use to determine quality of life. For example, USNews did a ranking that measured states' natural environment and social cohesiveness that contributes to quality of life. Mississippi ranked 6th, but the ranking did seem to skew towards states with smaller populations. But there is an argument that smaller states that foster tightly knit communities does lead to a better quality of life, at least in some sense.
Other rankings that heavily weight other factors like economic health and education more heavily tend to skew towards the coasts. Point being, I don't think there really is a good standard to judge quality of life. So I don't think saying that MS is the "****tiest as far as quality of life" is really accurate. Mississippi ranks pretty highly in several of the metrics typically used to judge that, but like I said I'm not sure how useful they are.
Believe me, I'm no fan of the south or Mississippi at all. I kinda hate living here. I've lived in five different areas in my life: Mississippi, Alaska, Wyoming, SoCal, and NorCal. If I had to rank them, I'd go Alaska>Wyoming>Norcal>Mississippi>Socal. The only reason I'm still living in Mississippi right now is because my entire family is here, but I plan on moving somewhere north within the next 5 years. But that isn't to say that Mississippi is this awful place to live. It has a lot of redeeming qualities and a lot of charm. You won't meet nicer people, in general. Most of people's negative perceptions on Mississippi stem from the Delta. Its a truly awful place. But the rest of Mississippi really isn't all that different from any southern or midwestern state in the country.
