GDT 4/14: Teheran duels fellow ace deGrom

The new catching WAR at fangraphs is absolutely in love with Flowers. In just 8 games he has a 2.1 dWar.

He is on pace for greater than a 6 fWar season. Just absurd. BUT WHAT ABOUT REALMUTO!!!

Mets vs Phillies starting to tonight. Thor vs Nola should be a good game... interested to see if Nola turns it around.Hopefully neither sweep the series

There's someone somewhere in the system better than Venters, but I think my bigger gripe is that he was brought back in the first place and the the front office didn't try to fill this hole in the off-season.

Dude was money last year. I don't see how anyone can legitimately say he was a poor choice to bring back. That's a what have you done for me lately mentality.

Pitch framing was always going to close the gap between the two. Those that looked at it before fangraphs added it in already knew this. And I suspect this is why AA didn't up that initial offer. Overall the upgrade we would have gotten wasn't worth the cost.

can't be stated enough so i'll say it again: ronald acuña's at-bats are ridiculous. he pretty much never looks silly in an AB. i'm no expert on plate discipline numbers, and of course it's a SSS, but the following seem to be even more encouraging:

oswing% down from 27.5 to 22.2%.
swing% overall down 4.4%.
o-contact up 19.3%. so swinging less outside the zone, and making more contact when he does. this seems like good thing?
first pitch strike % down almost 10%.
swinging strike% down almost 3%.

so swinging less in general, and when he does swing he's missing less.
also...he's 21 years old.

Your waaaayyy too early fWAR catcher in nl east leaderboard:

1. Flowers 0.6
2. Alfaro 0.5
3. JTR 0.3
4. Ramos 0.1
5. Gomes 0.0

Donaldson up to a 131 wrc+ he's going to be a monster if he stays healthy

It turns out that signing a recent MVP who has bene the second best player in MLB for the largest single season salary in team history actually is a significant move. Who would have guessed?

Who said it wasn’t significant? The thread marking his signing was buzzing with optimism. We all knew he was probably going to be good. Some doubted his ability to start. Some felt he should have played more in spring. Others stayed the course. I still would have liked to added a better bullpen piece and someone else for the outfield. If they can keep Neck fresh I might have been wrong on that want. Neck may turn out to be the biggest value of all FA signings. Pen can still be addressed both externally and internally.

Not only was it significant, but it was great VALUE!!

I seem to recall a number of people saying that the Braves had only signed this broken down relic because he was personal friends with Anthopolous. Really, more than one person said that.

I agree that the one thing the Braves did not do that I considered to be an significant error was fail to add a leverage bullpen arm. Not necessarily a closer.

The hate markakis gets is unreal. He took degrom deep tonight and earned a walk. Ops is currently .896

He and Swanson are making me look silly so far for not wanting eithet of them on the team. I hope they make me eat my words all year.

Replace Donaldson with Rendon next year and it's just as fun. ;)

Dear Jesus Lord in Heaven. Yes, Please.

Albies 2B
Acuna RF (if he can play there LOL)
Freeman 1B
Rendon 3B
Swanson SS
Camargo LF
Flowers/Jackson/Whomever
Pache CF
Folty)
