GDT 5/26 Braves vs Cards

This is dumb.

Even the two poorest states in the country- Mississippi and West Virginia (arguably the South)- have higher gross household income (PPP) than other rich nations like Canada, New Zealand, and the Netherlands. Clearly they have some idea of what they're doing on the econ side.

You are a very smart baseball guy, but you prove your economic knowledge is grossly inadequate when you denigrate an entire swath of the richest country on Earth.

Mississippi GDP per capita 2017 $32,000

Canada GDP per capita 2017 (PPP) $44,000

Anyone who degrades another class of people is a bigot. Don’t respond. Anyone who pretends to degrade another class of humans is just making troll statements to goat you into something silly. Don’t respond. Seriously Gus. Stop get so worked up over interweb comments.

What about degrading a class of thinking. Is it bigoted to degrade people who engage in bad faith discussion where they just simply pull facts out of thin air. Just want to make sure I am not transgressing any important social mores.

I am just not into grouping people into a stereotype. Regardless if it is their race/religion/political stance/location/belief the world is flat. Sure some stereotypes are born from truth. But I will not intentionally exacerbate the issue.

Do I think Cheff is a bigot. Nope. He was trolling some folks and they took the bait. It is silly in my eyes to do it and just as silly to take the bait. But I don’t care one way or the other. I think folks take the interweb way to serious sometimes.

Wait. All Faillie fans are idiots. Well **** I guess I am a bigot too.

Look at the post at the top of this page. That's what I was referencing. Are these boards a safe space for that style of bad faith argumentation where facts get made up out of thin air.

Safe? I am not protecting Taylor. If you think he is off base or dumb based on what he said then feel free. But to call him dumb because he is x. Well. You can be your own judge.

Not dumb. But I wonder who he thinks he is fooling when he does something like that.

This is an article on real disposable income when you factor in cost of living among the states. California is worse than most of the South. 2012 numbers. https://www.fool.com/investing/gene...es-residents-have-the-most-cash-to-spend.aspx

Well that's another point altogether. And one that is based upon something respectable.

However, I would also point out that just subtracting out taxes isn't quite right. There is a correlation between what you pay out in taxes and what you receive back in services.

It's not just that. This article also factors in cost of living. What we get back in services can be very debatable. Too many high tax states still have ****ty roads for example.

Well I’m definitely not interested in living in a place with bad roads! The horror

I get what your saying though

I looked at it. While no state gives a great return on tax dollars, I'm pretty sure the level of services does vary with taxes. So there needs to be an adjustment for that if you are going to adjust for taxes.

How do you adjust for something that is so subjective? Some of the higher tax states like California has poured a lot of money into the state and I can say the people aren't better off there(in my opinion).

making zero adjustment is also a subjective choice...and not a very good one

I've never relied on state services so I'm not in a good position to evaluate...a family with a special needs child once told me they chose Massachusetts over New Hampshire even though the latter has much lower taxes
