Braves interested in CK and DK

You can never have too much pitching depth but I would be surprised if we are targeting DK over Kimbrel. That said it would likely take a few weeks to get DK ready for the rotation so that would give the team more time to see who they would bump or if they go with a 6 man rotation for awhile.

I also don't see the reasoning behind signing DK over CK, and I'm going to assume the Braves can only afford one of them.

Like Bumgarner, DK would be an improvement in the rotation, but it seems like CK would be a bigger improvement in the BP. CK should also be ready to contribute a lot sooner than DK.

Perhaps the issue is that DK is willing to take a reasonable 4 month deal, while CK is still holding out for 2.5 years. If that's the case, I'm glad the Braves are going nowhere near that type of contract for CK.

what would you think of Keuchel for 2.5?

All these mental exercises aren't going to matter because I don't think AA has been given the payroll to sign anybody.

If the owners were smart and Kimbrel could be bad for a favorable deal, they'd pony up. Kimbrel is still a fan favorite, and he'd sell tix

This is what I’m thinking too. DK May be more reasonable on his demands so they may sign him and trade for the bullpen help. DK and Will Smith would put us in a pretty strong position to win the division imo.

AA won't open up the checkbook for either of them so stop worrying. He's focused on finding some 40 something reliever that will take the minimum and have a 5+ ERA.

One thing I've learned is to not listen to a word AA says. Look at what makes the most financial sense and you'll rarely be surprised by what he does.

So find every bargain possible, save money, tell the fans we're giving ourselves financial flexibility, draft players with the thought we can save money there as well to continue giving us financial flexibility, then at the end of the season announce we didn't see any value in any potential moves, and then have Liberty Media pocket the surplus. Gotcha.

I think it’s far too early in his tenure for this take.

I still fail to see how everyone on this board didn’t get the hint the Braves were tapped out when right after signing JD,DOB reported AA left the winter meetings for Colorado to meet up with Managment and narrative of the Braves having money to spend went away and AA started talking about value and flexibility.
The budget was clearly changed from upstairs and all the remaining cash overflow from last season was put into paying down the battery.

Saying all that I desperately hope I’m wrong and we sign CK and or DK as soon as possible to not only help us win this year but give the fan base hope for the future in regards to spending...

I believe AA is a good gm but there’s only so much one can do when they don’t have the means and in not trading prospects for upgrades I think he’s done a great job to this point.

Two points:

1) It has been reported that the meeting you refer to was scheduled well ahead and AA had committed to going to it.

2) Subsequent to the meeting the Braves are reported to have made an offer to Brantley similar to the one he accepted from the Astros.
