Around The Majors 2019

i would like to know what it would take for Greinke but that 70 million for 2 years after this year is scary imo for years 38 and 39

True, but they're not getting anybody to take him without eating a significant chunk of that money. Gausman's likely to make at least what Julio's making next season, and whether you attribute Gausman's season thus far to bad luck or not I'd personally prefer Greinke.

Is anybody honestly convinced that Folty's breakout 2018 isn't a bit of a mirage right now? He's back to walking people left and right, the fastball is still straight, and he's never given anyone much of a reason to think that he's capable of pitching with diminished stuff as he ages.

I'm not saying that Greinke needs to be Target 1 by any means, but if we're able to limit Soroka's innings so that he's "full-go" for the postseason, a playoff rotation of Greinke/Keuchel/Soroka could make some noise. If you sent Gausman their way and kept Folty and he figures things out, that's an awfully strong top 4 and you don't really need to worry about looking for a Keuchel "replacement" this winter.

Folty isn’t walking everyone and his fastball is fine. His problem is crispness on slider and locating his pitches better. Folty’s last 5 starts he is walking less than 2 a game.

Which is fine - didn't actually look - but the 4 last night makes me worry since it looked more like he was pitching away from contact to try to keep the ball in the park. Money/service time is a perfectly good reason for keeping him rather than Gausman as I mentioned.

Like I said, I wouldn't "break the bank" for Zack by any means - but he's certainly proven capable of being a frontline SP even without his best stuff, and I'd trust him far more in a play-in or playoff game than Folty or Gausman.

Not knowing something didn't stop you from blabbering about it anyways...

Shocking...

Julio almost has 1 fWAR so far and is sporting a 3.0 ERA. He's not a perfect player by any means, but what are you trying to say here?

I’m assuming you’ve watched Julio the past 4 years.

I view starter Newk similarly.

Not sure there’s much more to add to that.

So a solid number 4 who occasionally has a year where he pitches like a 2/3. That's pretty valuable, especially while he's cheap.

This isn’t a value conversation.

It’s whether I want that or an elite relief pitcher (which Newk has been).

Never mind that relief pitchers don’t do as well in arbitration if we want to go down that path.

I think you take the mid rotation pitcher and you trade for a high leverage reliever.

probably that he's a 0.5-2 WAR SP?

It’s June?

Seems odd to **** on a guy who’s only given up 3 runs in his last 7 starts. Hasn’t given up a homer in like 45+ innings.

If he could figure out how to stop waking so many guys he’d be incredible.
