BRAVES FINAL DRAFT SIGNING BOARD: Backstrom on board!

I think this is a picture of our J2 signings.

There are many players drafted that werent highly thought of at 16. Maybe we wont find any stars but we could find some prospects even with the sanctions.

With that number to Estes, anyone know what the max we can offer Backstrom is?

If Estes is at $500k, that means $375k counts against the pool. TC had the Braves' remaining pool (pre-Estes) at $745,810, factoring the 5% permissible overage. That leaves $370,810 in the pool, and the Braves could offer that in addition to the $125k base—so, they can offer Backstrom up to $495,810 without penalty, if my quick-math and TC's spreadsheet are both correct.

Nice, thanks for doing the math. Hopefully that’s enough to get it done.

if we hit on a 2 of our 5 third round picks this will be a good draft...maybe 6 if we land Backstrom

and the Italian stallion

Paolini was a fifth-rounder paid like a late-second/early-third; Grissom was an eleventh paid like a fourth. Neither of those scenarios are too out of the ordinary.

The Braves having three (and hopefully a fourth forthcoming) late-rounders getting third-round money, on the other hand, seems pretty anti-trend.

I’m starting to think we don’t get Backstrom but I hope I’m wrong. Kid could become a beast

There are a good many high school kids who are playing poker with the clubs. Locally, a 15th round pick of the Padres has said he is waiting for their final offer the final day before he decided pro or Miss. State.

I understand this... I just said I had a feeling. Didn’t say it was rooted in anything

It will shock no one to learn that the Braves failed to sign any of the top 30 international prospects. Please tell me this is the last shred of the Coppygate punishment.

I'm not saying this is a factor in Backstrom's delay, but it certainly could be: Long Beach State, where he is committed, announced a new head baseball coach on June 10.
