GDT 6/20/19: Saturday Soroka Special

I'm excited to see Gausman tomorrow. I think he's our most likely option for a good pitcher behind Soroka and Keuchel.

I’m excited to see the data on the new pitches he’s been working on. Minter needs to get off the team.

That's gonna be cool to track. Sorta wish we were letting him experiment against the royals though rather than the nats

His rehab results have been very promising. He's going to be a boost even if he can just pitch like he was at the very beginning of the year and last year... he's not a bad pitcher.

As frustrating as tonight was we can still get the split by winning tomorrow. I like our pitching matchup as I think we’ll see much better results from Gausman and our best relievers have a day of rest.

The Gnats meanwhile have Joe Ross and his 11+ ERA making a spot start. Suero and Rodney should be unavailable. Doolittle did a lot of work tonight as well and although he’ll probably be available I doubt they extend him the way they did tonight. With Ross pitching and the rest of the Gnats bullpen exposed I think the bats show up and we win big tomorrow.

If we can advance the schedule 4 games and not give any ground to the Gnats that would be a win for us.

I’m loving all this optimism about Gaus and hope y’all are right.
Hopefully we can split tomorrow night!

Holy crap I just saw the Gnats are starting Joe Ross tomorrow. Have no idea what they’re thinking considering his era is over 11

Remember Ross Detwiler?

I thought they’d split this series from the beginning, and ironically lose Soroka’s start. We’ll see.

Ok, the narrative is now that Gaus learned 2 pitches in a couple weeks and is going to be the savior? Come on...

Gaus threw a CU as recently as 2016. It wasn’t good then, and I have a hard time believing it will suddenly be good now after 2 whole weeks. A cutter is a harder thrown SL, so that’s a feasible addition.

Gausman is a solid #3 who was performing like a #3/4 while dealing with an injury and suffering some terrible batted ball luck. It was no coincidence Gaus hit the DL almost immediately after DK was signed and he no longer had to pitch through the issue.

If Gausman is healthy he should be expected to be the same #3 we are used to seeing him be.

My narrative was never that he will be the savior... I'm just simply interested to see the pitch data for the new pitches and I'm looking forward to the potential for a solid #3 performance that is sorely needed from him.
