Morosi tweeted this: Felipe Vázquez to the #Braves for OF Drew Waters and LHP Kyle Muller was today's trade hypothetical on #MLBCentral.
Scared me to death the way he worded that tweet, sounded like it was done.
I like Vazquez, but I'm not dealing Waters for a reliever.

It's the extra control that really pumps up his trade value. BP arms are so volatile I don't think it's wise to pay for extra control over a volatile asset...though Vazquez is go young and good and consistent that he verges on being an exception.
I still would prefer the Braves spend lesser assets acquiring impact rentals.
Either way, I think Waters + Muller is a clear overpay.

The big name SPs with control (Boyd, Thor, Bauer, Greinke, Ray) all stay put due to lack of huge offers.
The Giants end up selling all 3 of MadBum, Smith and Dyson.
Jays trade both Stroman and Giles, Yanks give up Andujar.
He has the Braves using payroll space to get nsacpi's favorite BP target Kennedy for essentially nothing in terms of prospects. His prediction of the Braves getting a SP like Marco Gonzales seems pointless with the depth of arms as good or better than him already in the system.
I can't disagree with much other than the number of package deals he predicts. I bet the Yankees cash in Frazier for the best arm with the most control they can get. He has Puig going to the Indians, but I think he is a very likely target for the Braves to replace Riley in LF and moving Ender to the 4th OF slot on the bench.
The idea of getting Kennedy plus some cash for virtually nothing of value is a very AA-like move, especially considering they likely have at least $10M in cash laying around for 2019 (based on the fact we know they were in on both CK and DK for 1 year deals). They should be able to easily cover the $5M-$6M he's still owed in 2019, and if KC kicks in $5M-$10M for 2020 they can get a FV 40 from the Braves...maybe a good place to dump Allard.

Not based on recent valuations of controllable elite BP arms. The Padres got Mejia for Hand.
Waters for Vazquez seems very reasonable in terms of how BP arms are valued.

Waters/Muller for Vazquez is fair value. I wouldnt want AA to do that but value wise, that's more than fair.
His contract is 4 mil this year, 5.7 next year, 7+ in 21, and two 10 mil options in 22-23. Again i wouldnt do that but hes really good and cheap, but BP arms are so violatle its too risky.

If we have the opportunity to get fair value for one of the best closers on the market, then I do that deal in a heartbeat....we have a team that has a chance to do damage in the postseason. I’m out on taking the “it’s okay we bounced out in the first round, because we have kids in the minors that may not bust in 2 years” let’s give the fans reason to believe!

Waters/Muller would be a big start towards getting something that wouldn't be limited to 60 IPs would be my response to that.
Not if you view Muller as a 50 FV prospect, as I do. And a June update to the rankings saw Waters as a 55 FV prospect. That's roughly 67 million in future value we're giving up for someone that throws 60 innings a year. Unless I'm wrong, Vazquez has roughly 50-55 million in FV, even considering the contenders premium. Now that's not a significant overpay, but it's an overpay nonetheless. If we waited and he were available in the off-season when the contenders premium isn't applied, he'd be worth about 30-40 million in surplus value. Obviously that doesn't help us now, but I don't feel the difference in Vazquez and someone like Ken Giles or Shane Greene is all that great, or at least certainly not when you consider the extra cost involved and the volatility of relievers.
Fair value now for Vazquez would be something like Contreras(50 FV hitter), Wilson (50 FV pitcher), and Weigel (45 FV pitcher). Or may be Waters (55 FV hitter) and Weigel. Either way, it's still quite a high price for a reliever, imo, and I wouldn't pay it.
