no...but generally you work more aggressively to get the platoon advantage in the playoffs

having said that 3 of the first 4 hitters in the inning were righties so I would have used Swarzak for those 4

Ump has had a skewed strike zone all day and for both sides. By skewed, I just mean whatever he's seeing for strikes is different than the superimposed strike zone rectangle. The worst screwings IMO were reserved for Josh Donaldson but, that said, we won't lose this game because of the home plate ump.
 
not sure if that was the plan but Snit managed that inning in a way that MINIMIZED our platoon advantage

As I see it the root cause is having this idea that Swarzak has the 8th inning...the right sequence would have been Swarzak then Newk to face Hernandez, Franco and Hasely.
 
I hope front offices are much smarter than Paul Byrd. If I'm SF, I still sell because of how old they are and how bad their farm system is. You may as well get what you can for Bumgarner and try to steal what you can for your relievers.

Agreed...its the right move to sell. Just complicated since it's Bochy's last season. He's a legend there - would be like us selling in Bobby's last season. Def would take a pair of brass ones
 
Hate to even suggest it, but I think Byrd makes Francoeur look amazing in the booth. Byrd is just a younger Joe Simpson with outdated dinosaur views of baseball.
 
Newcomb would stay in to face Hoskins in the playoffs. You have your LOOGY's, but he's not viewed as one and you have to have guys that can get out both left and right, which he had been doing fine.
