Official Offseason Thread

The word you’re looking for is “you’re”, not “your”.

Here’s a tip: don’t question the intelligence of others if you’re too dumb to know the difference between your/you’re. Chances are “you’re” so stupid everyone else has a more efficient brain than the one in “your” head.

The comma should be inside the closing quotation mark. Likewise the period.

Morosi - Sources: The #STLCards and #Rangers have been more involved than the #Braves in Nolan Arenado trade discussions over the past week.

Not surprising. The Rockies may love the Braves prospects, but there’s not a lot in this for Atlanta for the price, both monetary and prospect.

I just don’t get these teams wanting to give up multiple good prospects to have the right to pay Nolan what they could have just spent on Rendon. Maybe Rendon told them to go away so they have no choice. Maybe the Rox are kicking money.

The Rockies almost assuredly would have to be willing to kick in cash, as teams are keenly aware of the fact that Rendon is paid the same and would have cost zero prospects. I'd imagine the Rox would have to kick in something to the tune of 50 million. With the opt after 2021, I think a good deal would be to take on the entire salary for 2020 and 2021 and then have the Rox kick in roughly 10 million per year (50 million total) over the remaining life of the contract if he decides to opt out. At that point, Arenado has enough surplus value to warrant 2 top prospects (non Pache) and one lottery ticket type (Vodnik/De la Cruz/Jenista).

Agreed. The Cards reported package isn't over-the-top but definitely enough that the Rocks would have to kick in some major cash.

As for not "just spending it on Rendon" I don't think anyone will ever know, but if it makes sense for anybody money-wise, it's definitely the Cardinals. They've got $16.5 million coming off the books after this season in Miller and Cecil (after paying Miller's buyout), plus a tough decision to make on Molina (who's making another $20 million). Then there's another $31 million coming off following 2021 in Fowler and Carpenter after paying Carpenter's buyout. Landing Arenado might help them do a couple things - 1.) lessen fan outcry in the event they can't bring Molina back for a reasonable price (he's already said he plans to keep playing), and 2.) turn around and spin off Gorman for high-end young pitching that will be inexpensive while they're paying Arenado, Goldschmidt, and DeJong.

I'm more of a Chicago Manual of Style man myself -- AP is more specific to journalism -- but I salute you, sir. Funny; I'd edited to mention the period just before I saw this. So a double salute.

I graduated with a double major in communications and journalism with a minor in English. I went on to work as a reporter and editor at a regional newspaper before moving to a television station and finally landing as a PR manager in North Carolina. For what it's worth, I rarely review what I post here because it's a message board and I don't care how I look to random people on the internet, but if someone is going to use grammar to demean someone else, I can jump in and play that game.

If true, a Liberatore/Martinez/Hudson/O'Neill is a pretty strong deal. Still dont know if Cards would offer that much, but probably wont get a better offer than that.

The Rockies would pretty quickly "fix" their money problems with a deal like that. They could extend Story and move Desmond to 2B to buy Rodgers another year if they want. McMahon would move back to 3B, and they'd have substantially improved their rotation.

Don't think I'd want AA to try and beat that kind of offer - would almost guarantee the injury bug would hit our staff right away if he thinned out that much depth in one deal.

I feel like you're missing a comma in there somewhere, participle phrase perhaps? Idk could be wrong. Just wanted a certificate of participation so i could use the Ralph Wiggum I helped meme.

I suppose I'll type it again: "For what it's worth, I rarely review what I post here because it's a message board and I don't care how I look to random people on the internet."
