Braves sign OF Marcell Ozuna to 1 yr, 18 Million.

We can't offer him a qualifying offer next off-season, it can only be offered once, so we can't recoup it later.

Hard not to, i mean. 1 year deal, keeps Pache/Waters down pretty much all year. Doesnt add long-term financial strain in the coming years.

Thing is, Braves have a TRUCKLOAD of money off the books next year. Hamels, MM, Ozuna, Greene, Nick, Flowers. Ender is a possible trade candidate too. O'Day is likely to have his option declined. Folty could get non-tendered.
 
Read some conflicting stuff, the Braves won't be able to offer a QO to Ozuna next year like Milwaukee couldn't with Grandal?


Edit: A player can't be offered a QO back to back seasons.
 
Can’t dislike this deal at all. Big add to the lineup and at no risk for 1 year. Really surprised there were no multi year deals out there. So is it Riley/Camargo at 3b or does AA make a trade? I’d love to go after Senzel now.

I'd go for Bryant once his arb case is settled, pending what it would cost.

So would I. I don’t think AA has a lot of faith in Riley or Camargo to be honest. If we ended up with Bryant to somehow then wow at our lineup.

I think he's ok with them, for now, he'll look to upgrade if they stink it up.
 
I still hope we entertain a potential trade for Bryant, Arenado, or Clevenger... adding one of those guys really puts us over the top IMO
 
with this deal we see confirmation of 3 things

1) AA places great value in the flexibility provided by short-term deals

2) AA is a prospect hoarder. And has kept a path open for the best position prospects in the upper minors (Riley, Pache, Waters).

3) OD payroll is going up significantly to around $145M
 
I'm shocked by this. Thought for sure he'd get a multi year deal. This is much better than signing Donaldson. AA can still try to do something at third.

Or Acuna to RF and Neck is finally reduced to a part-time role? If given the choice against lefties, would you rather Neck or Inciarte out there?

Probably a 3-way platoon with Duvall, Nick and Ender for the other OF slot.

Only way I will believe this is if AA and the analytics department sat down with Anti-Analytics Weiss and Snitker and will be micromanaging.
