The Coronavirus, not the beer

If true. Tragic and hope they get the penalty they deserve.

Also, there will be more violence if lawmakers continue to enforce this.

lol

Nice straddle

Shocker, that it comes nowhere near close to the same level to your usual comments of “the violent radical left” lol

This is a very odd story the Times ran. I think they are making a bit too much out of this document. It seems amateurishly put together. The graphs of the projections look odd. And there is no background information in the article about how these projections were made.

The projection line seems to start on March 15. But it says run date for the model is May 1. Doesn't add up.

Most numerical models include data well before the date they are run. Those previous numbers and trends are valuable input into the model. The more real data you can assimilate, the better the model quality. That's why real time and past observations are included in weather models.

I'm looking at the fitted line (which might be a backcast) versus the actual data (the blue dots). I'd be a little alarmed if my fitted line were entirely below what it is trying to forecast or estimate.

The fitted line is just a backcast, but this is directly from a leaked CDC presentation. So it is legit. And has one who works for a federal government agency, I can assure you most of our graphs are put together way too quickly and haphazardly to get the results out. We should really hire some Excel experts.

I know it is an official document. I just don't find it impressive. And certainly there is a lot of missing context. Whose model is this. How does it work. etc etc

Of course the fact it was leaked raises some questions. Why was it leaked.

Every company/entity needs excel experts. Its shocking how inept most people are with the one of the most influential programs ever created.

You get the government to pony up. I have become quite the guru but its only because I cared to put in the time on my own to increase my skills.

A really good niche in finance is to have excel skills/accounting knowledge/SQL.

Starting to learn some more SQL but I'm pretty good with manipulating existing queries for my purposes.

Companies pay absurd amounts of money for this since all gloabl consolidations are managed within some sort of DB.

I would be surprised if the CDC stat gurus are running their models in excel.

They aren't. Was never claiming they were. No one runs models in Excel; that's not what its for. However, they are presenting their findings in charts created in Excel considering the article with the leaked chart is quite obviously an Excel chart. Still trying to figure out where anyone said anything about a model being run in Excel.
