I would be surprised if the CDC stat gurus are running their models in excel.
I got a lot of friends who work in government and I'd be surprised if they know what excel is
(Not literally... but, yeah)

Every company/entity needs excel experts. Its shocking how inept most people are with the one of the most influential programs ever created.

The fact that these entities are worried about excel experts and not tableau experts or data scientists is all you need to know.
Excel is a tool to analyze data. Its universal. Even more important is how it acts as an interface to import data into any other software.
All of their assumptions will be based on this and it will be input into modeling specific software.
I'm not sure if people even realize how important excel is to modern business.
BIS get fed often through excel imports. And they are maintenance and tested often through exports to excel.
Data validation on direct interfaces will also often be done in excel.
Oh don’t I know it. It’s one of the relics of the past that’s a bane to efficiency.
With how much Python coding basics are emphasized now in K-12, I would be surprised if Excel is the default.
Plus, Data frame validation and maintenance is so much easier to do in Pandas. Unnecessary aggregation to do that in Excel if you can avoid it.
The case highlights the need for “states to remember that we do not abandon all of our freedom in times of emergency,” US Attorney Matthew Schneider said.
“Unlawful discrimination against people who exercise their right to religion violates the First Amendment, whether we are in a pandemic or not,” Schneider said.
Now you've got me interested. Didn't know what tableu was but thats just a standard BI tool like Cognos which is what I'm using currently at work.
Not familiar with Python or Pandas. How would they take away excels importance?
Another point on excel its not just the users knowledge but how fast you can navigate with the keyboard through all the functionalities. I don't know how this would related to this other medium you are discussing though.
If you work with data a lot you need to learn Tableau, Birst, or Quicksight.
And if you wanna play in the big leagues, I'd recommend learning python
From what I'm seeing Tableau is just a BI took which helps users that can't deal with data organize charts for analysis. It has its uses but I feel its like the windows to Dos (excel in this example). As I've said my company is using Cognos which is supposedly a much more super powered version of Tableau. From what I've seen you'll still need excel to stand it up and support it.
But python interested me as I've wanted to learn a programming language for quite some time. Math background and I've done some small things with SQL and VB. I'm 31 minutes in to this beginners tutorial on yahoo. Hope this will end up helping me.
