Whatever you think using violence on protesters in the name of preventing the virus would have made this much worse.
The problem is that people don't understand what real scientific info is, and they certainly don't understand the difference between a hypothesis, scientific theory, and scientific fact. What a joke this take on all this is.
The other part is understanding that scientists have political views like anyone else. It is pretty rare that their work as scientists is affected by their politics. I mean a heart surgeon's competence in his or her field doesn't turn on whether he or she has liberal or conservative views.
