GDT: 7/27 Braves @ Rays

The fact that the team dumped Folty so quick instead of sending him to the DL with some phantom strain makes me wonder how well he was liked. If he was a pillar of the clubhouse I think they might have tried to see if they could fix what's wrong. The fact they dumped him combined with his tendency to lose his cool on the mound makes me think the team was tired of him.

In the age of covid, we've all lost a bit of tolerance for the Folty-type people in our lives.

His current velocity is pretty much the same as Boston's current number three, former Braves' prospect Ryan Weber. Of course, the difference is Weber never threw mid-90s.

Oh how well I know - have both on a fantasy team in a real deep league as placeholders while I'm waiting on Whitley, Anderson, Liberatore, and Dunning to arrive.

Man, we need Wright to step up more than ever now. If he can prove to be reliable then I'm more comfortable with a combination of Chacin and our young guys for the last 2 spots.

Man, there is some legit ****ed up speculation in here...

It warms my heart to see that America has progressed to the point where we can recklessly speculate on a white player's character and drug use as we formerly did with black players. Dr. King's dream is closer than ever to fruition.

Eh. He looks fine. Probably nothing.

FWIW, the one that really got me was someone speculating he has mental problems stemming from childhood trauma. What a leap, man.

Who is saying he is using drugs? His wait loss is alarming and it reminds me and I am sure others of people using. Or depressed. But I haven’t seen any direct allegations. Maybe I missed them.

Nah. Trading every possible player in that era is the only thing that would of made Harry happy. Sure, we wouldn't have had the last two divisional titles but think of the future!

I just don't believe in half measures. Sure, winning the division the last two years is better than being horrible. However, the point of rebuilding (or in this case reloading) is to create a team that can win championships. The Braves are on a current run of not advancing past the first round of the playoffs since 2001 when they beat Houston only to get immediately thumped by Arizona. In 2000 they were swept by the Cards in the first round. Since they won the WS in 1995, the Braves have won a total of 7 playoff series, 2 in 96, 1 in 97, 1 in 98, 2 in 99, and 1 in 01. The vast majority of that came at the end of the viability of the last really good Braves rebuild. Since then they've built for mediocrity most of the time and gotten what they built for.

So far, in this rebuild (reload) they have 2 Division wins and no playoff series wins. The building blocks of the contending staff (circa 2015-2016) were supposed to be Teheran and Folty, neither are here today. The building blocks for the position players was supposed to be Freeman and Inciarte. Inciarte is about to be passed and will be going into his last year of his contract in 2021 (option for 2022). Freeman is going into his final contract year in 2021. I guess the Braves could win the WS in 20 or 21 and everything would have worked out fine. Even winning a playoff series or two could make an argument.

If not, then holding those guys was not the most efficient move. To me it's about goals. If your goal is to see reasonably good baseball which the Braves provided in 18 and 19, then you should be satisfied. If the goal was to approach excellence, maybe achieve it, then you have to look at the reload as a likely missed opportunity.

Hopefully it’s neither. By all accounts he seems like a nice guy, and he’s got a very young son at home (like a 1 year old). Really hope he gets his velo back and stick with a club
