The Coronavirus, not the beer

Honolulu bars have been fingered as the culprit by the mayor. The overwhelming majority of the cases are in Honolulu.

Btw Mississippi is very close to breaking into the top 10 states for covid deaths per capita.

Damn right we are... got our eye on top 5

so i wonder what caused the uptick. maybe people got lax with distance/mask wearing? tourism?

I mean it's roughly 1500 new cases in month. It could have been anything, but at this moment in time, using "700% increase!!" is just a political tactic.

For reference, Florida saw over 15k cases in a single day a couple weeks ago. I don't think 1,500 new cases in 30 days is really enough to get super concerned about, and certainly isn't some sort of proof that masks don't work.

The other thing to note is that masks do not completely stop transmission. They reduce transmission. So the fact that masks are not being 100% effective in Hawaii or somewhere else is not really an argument against them. But the resident chuckleheads are a stubborn lot. They keep coming back with ever more absurd and illogical arguments. Their use of fractions, decimals and percentage changes is especially creative.

You've got health leaders saying coronavirus would be defeated if we all wore masks for a couple months.

If everyone is wearing masks, we shouldn't be seeing big spikes.

Right?

And if thats not right, then these protests are even more destructive than previously feared.

big spikes? nice try

So going from 300 in 4 months... to 1900 last month (using carps number) isn't a big spike?

since you asked...nyet...let me know if you need a translation

they have had what by the standards of just about any state is a small outbreak

for big outbreak, see Mississippi, Florida, Arizona, Bama

see idaho if you want to see a small state that has had a really big outbreak

Hawaii with no bordering countries/states has a huge advantage over any other state. Wasn't it you who were worried about other states bringing back to NY? Well, this is absolutely no concern for Hawaii.

yeah...being an island is an advantage...but then so is being a state that no one visits

btw alaska looks like it is having an outbreak similar to Hawaii's...is that a point in favor of or not in favor of wearing a mask

I'm not anti-mask, but I certainly don't think they are the magic cure that some do. I think social distancing is much more effective. I wear my mask in all indoor public places, and that thing itches me so bad. If I were less disciplined about not touching my face, I can see how it would be worse than no mask at all.

Lol you are too fun these days.

Thanks also for ignoring rest of post

No, it isn't. Seriously, one small community could be responsible that sort of spread. Like, how am I having to explain to someone that works in finance how percentages work?
