I need to vent on this Duck Dynasty "Controversy".

when Phil and the rest in this country that "preach the good word" come out to be pro slave beating and being able to sell his daughter into slavery and against tats and clothes being made of 2 different threads and all the other stuff they skip over to say homosexuality is a sin

i will then listen to them

cause if you aren't in favor of the rest, i don't see why they would pick and choose what to believe in the Bible

And again I have to point out you have no idea what you're talking about. You sound just as dumb as Phil on his Iim Crow views.

I have read this whole thread and not really sure what this rant is over ?

Outrage about the outraged fans ? Outraged people don't know better ? Just outraged?

I guess I just didn't realize it was the duck dynasty people that would cause a rant in the first place because this same thing happens all the time. So, I guess my question is why the outrage about Robertsons KL? I didn't even know about this until you posted and I'm smack in the middle of this shows audience. Someone did mention it at last nights Christmas party for a total of 2 seconds though.

There is probably some backlash because of the belief that Phil is a good man, and people don't want to see a good man wronged. That would be my guess why you are seeing any backlash. Case in point, Alec Baldwin is known as a pretty pompous blowhard and just generally an asshole and no one said a word about him getting **** canned.

This is my opinion and as usual I express it in meme form

We've been down this road before. Do we really want to go down it again? Hermeneutics and all. I despise this simpleton critique of the historic Christian view of Scripture. It's a canard.

Could pick a number of more serious issues. I could give 2 ****s about celebrities. If I hear about Paul walker one more time it's 1,000,001 times more than I give frack about.

I've never caught onto the Duck Dynasty craze. I've watched a few clips on Youtube, but I think I was the only person last night in Bass Pro Shop that perhaps never watched that show.

Conservatives were outraged and called for Alec Baldwin to get fired... Martin Bashir got fired after conservatives were outraged for something bad he said about Palin...

Robertson says something like this and conservatives in social media want to play the free speech and religious freedom card... oh and he isn't fired, just "suspended indefinitely" which usually in the entertainment biz means away from the public and TV cameras until the scandal has died down and no longer front page news.

Be consistent.

Most of the "outrage" on here is of the fake sort or sneering sort from those who think themselves above a bunch of "Louisiana, homophobe, hicks" - at least that's the way I read them. ;-)

Yeah, not a word earlier about Baldwin or Bashir. Cause, Baldwin is generally on their team and they didn't have a problem with what Bashir said.

Btw, Bashir's apology was one of the best that I have ever heard. I give him high marks.

There is no consistency on the national stage, that's a huge part of the problem. When you aren't just as outraged when the team you hate most in the NFL gets a bad call as when your favorite team gets a bad call then you have no right IMO to complain. I didn't hear any conservatives complaining when Baldwin said what he said and was fired, I heard a lot of conservatives screaming when Bashir said a LOT of really evil stuff about Sarah Palin, though I strongly suspect it was more about Palin than about what Bashir said, but to be honest what Bashir said was way worse than what Baldwin or Robertson said, IMO. Did Libs scream when Baldwin went on his rant? Maybe so, but most of what I saw and heard was head shaking and disappointment not outrage. Did conservatives defend Baldwin's right to free speech? If so I didn't hear it. What about Bashir's right to be a hole on MSNBC (I started to say NATIONAL TV but caught myself at the last minute)?? Do conservatives really care about free speech when a LIB says outlandish things? Doubtful. Does a LIB really care about free speech when a conservative says something outlandish?? Ha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And so on...

I liked Bedell's copy/paste about how it would have been nice to have heard a more positive/upbeat message on tolerance rather than vengeance, I too would have liked to see somebody actually take the freakin' high road for a change, but alas....

Here's another pretty good IMO pretend interview on this subject

By the way, to me the only clear winner in this stinkfest to this point, the TEA Party. They're getting much more attention for something other than how Ted Cruz's and Michelle Bachman's collective IQs are still in the double digits (combined) than they have in a long time.

Bedell, I frankly didn't care or endorse what Bashir said. Baldwin is a loose cannon so it was any day now.

As for Robertson, I don't care he's a homophobe redneck from Louisiana. I frankly dont' care about his comments, I care more about the fact the media is blowing this up and even more that the right is going all out to say his freedom of speech is being infringed upon when it's not.

Like I said, I don't like that we're becoming so PC in this country. I'm not surprised GLAAD went after him and wants him canned. They have their agenda, doesn't mean I side with it.

In regards to the substance of his comments, while I'm not surprised that's his views, I do think some of what he said was slightly offensive. What's puzzling is what he said about blacks was wayyyy more insensitive than about ***s IMO and that's getting less coverage. I don't care he said what he said, but what he said I gave my opinion on.

I'm just upset because this is going to keep stirring for a few days/weeks when there's more important things in this world to be worried about.

No offense, but: What the **** is Duck Dynasty?

I never knew about this show until a couple of months ago. Watched about 5 minutes of an episode by accident and can honestly say I don't know how this passes for television (along with about 99.9% of the other reality stuff).

Good link Hawk. Glad you are using one of my favorite sites.

I haven't watched it yet, but from the article, he's just paraphrasing Romans 1. And no it doesn't negate the idea of loving someone you think is committing sin.

And your posting this I think shows that you actually do care Sav, despite your protestations otherwise.

If it looks like I care, it's only because I'm in the office for the next few hours with nothing to do since most of the staff is gone for the holidays.

I'm actually working on a Brady Bunchesque collage for my family's Christmas photo, eating macaroni and cheese, and watching Dan Patrick's Show on NBCSN.

i don't think it is a simpleton critique

is was one of my biggest problems with people that scream about the Bible

hey, Carp is back for one reply and then to be lost for another a couple weeks before he returns

Thanks for posting the interview link. It's at least a civil way to talk about the issue, but I still can't get my head around the fact that, almost like global warming, some people simply cannot believe that homosexuals legitimately exist and that kind of comes through in this interview. I believe that there are some people who are truly homosexual. That's just what they are and if that's what they are, shouldn't they be accorded the same rights and opportunities to happiness as everyone else?

I agree that we all take our daily bath in sin. That's just the human condition. But I cannot help but believe that for some (and probably fewer than practice homosexual acts, which is an entirely different matter), being attracted to the same sex is simply how they are wired and whether that is from genetics or the experience of early childhood, the subjects themselves had no real choice in how this attraction developed. And it just seems so difficult for a segment of the population to accept that.

Don't get me wrong. I don't endorse the practices of libertines; heterosexual, homosexual, or bisexual. But the other angle of the interview that bothered me a bit is that it sidles up to the old "sex is only for procreation" saw. Sex is primal, but as humans, we also have sentience and having that makes the entire realm of sexual practice a lot more complex that it does for animals.

We've kind of gotten off the topic of the main thread, but I thought I'd chime in with an angle on the interview.
