GDT 8/6/20 Lineup with a Greek God

I'm going to tell my grand kids this was Nick Markakis

Touki's development of that splitter has been huge. It's such a good pitch and really makes his fastball play up.

The big thing tonight was fastball location. He was keeping the fastball in the zone but out of the middle of the zone. With his secondary stuff that's all he needs.

I saw a story on FB tonight about the braves organist trolling the jays catcher.

Apparently the Jays catcher McGwire had been arrested for masturbating in a car in a mall parking lot. So when he came up to bat tonight the braves organist played “Beat It” by Michael Jackson

Touki has flashed this stuff several times before.

I think the injuries and opt outs might be a blessing in disguise for him. Otherwise, he probably wouldn't have the opportunity.

Expecting him to command his pitches like that consistently is probably not wise, but it would be something if he did.

I have always been a huge fan of his. He was one of few pitching prospects to actually improved in the minors. To me I equate his season this year similar to what Fried had to go through. But he will probably get all year to start. There are going to be some clunkers like you said. He will be super wild and give up some bombs. He throws a ton of breaking pitches so he is always going to be Susceptible to the home run ball. But over all I think he eventually settles into the 3 spot with flashes of 2.

Touki looked great last night, but we have to keep in mind that the Jays are super aggressive and that plays into the hands of guys like Touki, Newk.

Let’s see him do it against a patient team.

Newk maybe. But touki had 18 strikes looking to 14 swings and misses. He was in the zone a lot and I didn’t see too many non competitive pitches. He was hitting spots and getting into counts where guys had to swing.

Agreed. He looked great.

Anyone think we see Anderson or Davidson this year?

With Soroka down I feel as if we are playing with house money. Let's see what we have got.

Also not sure why we can't get a look at Pache. Ender just can't get it done anymore.

We have an abundance of OFs this season, why burn a year of control on Pache now? Keep him down until after the Super 2 date next season.

And you know Markakis will be starting every game for the rest of the season (and batting 5th). So between Acuna and Markakis, 2 of the 3 spots are filled everyday. Then rotate in Ender, Duvall, Riley, and Ozuna.

This makes sense

Looks like his next start will be lined up to face the Yankees lol. We will find out quickly.

Still not sold on Touki, but that's the best his stuff has ever looked. He needs to keep that velocity and command of the breaking stuff. Slider and change looked great.

Folks are going to be high on Touki from now until he allows 3 runs in an inning. At that point he will declared a bust again by the same folks calling him awesome now. Typical fickleness of baseball fans.

However, I’ve long said pairing Touki with someone like Matzek could be a very effective way to cover 5-7 innings. The key is not falling into the “pitcher is cruising” fallacy like Snit did last night, and stick to the plan. People conveniently forget games like last night when they complain about manager pulling a pitcher who was “cruising”...because people are mostly stupid.

Touki should have been pulled for Matzek after Grichuk the 2nd time, or after Bichette the 3rd time if his pitch count was low. That should have been the plan before the first pitch was thrown, and it should have been followed regardless of how well he was pitching (unless the wheel fell off, of course).
