GDT 8/10/20 Twit’s new righty lineup?

Needless to say Newk giving up 4+ runs is the winner.

Why are we burning BP arms. I'd have left Newk in for 120 pitches

I hope I never see Newk in a Braves uni on the field again.

I distinctly remember someone on this board showing how unlikely it was for Newk to become a useful SP about 3 years ago. Why he keeps being run out there in that role is about as confusing as running Duvall out there vs RHP.

You did. I remember. I just don’t understand why they gave him another chance when he had finally found his niche.

The whole "Newk found his niche as a reliever" thing isn't really right, either. He had an ERA around 3 as a reliever, but he was still walking more than a batter per inning and an xFIP over 4. He was just luckier in a SSS as a reliever.

So is Duvall still a hot hitter?

Or is he simply a decent option vs LHP, and had a few good games against them to inflate his overall line early in the season?

Maybe should have said more “success” as a reliever. He did have many great innings and then a few really bad ones that inflated his numbers. Overall...he did really well.

Why don't we just switch Tomlin with Newk?

Because according to you, Newk is supposed to be in the middle of his stretch of 5 win seasons a a legit TOR guy. Remember?

We certainly don’t want the Braves to miss out on that.

Oh wait, that was the 437th time you were wrong.

Pitchers can get away with higher walk rates in the BP because they can be more effective when they aren’t walking guys due to platoon advantages and being able to throw with more effort in short stints. So overall better despite still walking a lot of men.

Newk as a setup guy was just fine.

I like the flexibility of having Tomlin as a bulk guy on whatever day it’s needed, as opposed to locking him into a single spot.

Meanwhile, I’m not even sure Newcomb is a viable bullpen guy atm, given how he’s pitched thus far this season.

Could Newk and Matzek perform in the roll though? I fear probabaly not for Newk but Tomlin looks like a good candidate for a 5th starter innings eater.

Hard to argue though he hasn't been incredibly effective in his current roll.

Phil Gosselin, Designated Hitter.

The Simulation isn’t even trying anymore.

But he can't get away with that now with the new rules about facing 3 hitters. Can't use Newk as a "situational guy" anymore.

So I guess the cost of promoting Ian Anderson is potentially 1 yr of service time in a pretend season (assuming the Braves held him down for a couple weeks next year).

Given the volatility of pitchers, this sorta seems like a fair trade to make. Just don’t see how the Braves fill out a full rotation without being aggressive with these guys.

So maybe i missed....has Weigel not gained his control back? Davidson? Wilson? Seems there are plenty of guys to make spot starts and see if they have any success .

please do anything except start Newcomb again.
we’ve seen over and over again he isn’t a starter. he didn’t need this many chances in a short season even with the injuries.
