Race

From my brief reading about it, it's not huge news. It looks like it's the Justice Department leveling accusations at Yale and telling them to stop relying on race in admissions or else they'll be sued. Of course, if Biden wins that could all be dropped.

Also, there's currently a case on appeal against Harvard after the district court sided with Harvard in a case with a similar admissions system.

Ultimately affirmative action cases will continue heading to the SCOTUS until the practice is eliminated. I don't know if either the Yale or Harvard cases will be the one though. It's a practice that's been chipped away at for decades. It's illegal on its face (especially in light of the SCOTUS' interpretation of Title VII this last term) so it takes pretty heroic measures to keep it going every time it hits the SCOTUS.

There is a common sense solution. Which is to not take race into account. It is possible and imo desirable to take into account whether someone comes from a privileged or underprivileged background without using race as some sort of proxy. If the Ivies really wanted to walk the walk they would also abolish the whole legacy point system. But they love the $$$ too much.

The legacy system is the worst. It's the height of hypocrisy.

Like half the whites that marched for George Floyds non racial death.

I bet Runnin and 57 will tell us how she is wrong

You're right. I do disagree with it much of it, like the underlying assumption that Dems could've done anything they wanted since they were 'in power', or that the current condition of Baltimore is exactly what Dems must've wanted for it. That crumbling infrastructure that does need rebuilding is from before Reagan's time. Since the 70's the rug has been slowly and systematically pulled out from under cities as Rep money has been redirected into the suburbs. I'm sure Dem lawmakers share some of that blame.

I also don't believe that Reps care more for Black lives than the Dems do.

Also, de-funding the police is really about re-allocating police money to social workers who will take over much of the jobs police are now having to do. She dishonestly misrepresented that. I'll bet those same folks who said they didn't want the police to go away would be happy to know they could be getting some help from people not carrying guns.

How exactly is she going to "fix" the problem with a single spot in Congress? Based on recent history she will just get into office, declare everything is fixed, and spend the rest of her days just attacking people who point out it isnt fixed. Maybe she should run for Mayor or Governor.

Trying to be nice.

But most of them go March to make themselves feel better and go back to their 98% white town.

You arent 100% wrong here. Just a reminder. I said Chauvin wont be found guilty of murder, Floyd was killed because he annoyed a cop by resisting and the knee on the neck was payback for that, and that many of the protestors are just virtue signaling.

Five years ago today, Dylann Roof murdered 9 Black men and women during a church service. He was later pulled over with a gun in his possession. Body cam footage shows officers calmly apprehending him. After arriving at the station, he was given a cheeseburger because he hadn’t eaten in a couple of days. He’s alive today.

George Floyd allegedly, and likely unknowingly, used a counterfeit bill.

Rayshard Brooks fell asleep in a Wendy’s drive thru.

Philando Castile was pulled over for a traffic violation and reached to get his license like the officer asked him to.

Sandra Bland was taken into custody for a minor traffic violation.

Eric Garner was selling cigarettes.

Terrence Crutcher had car trouble.

Tamir Rice (12) was playing with a toy gun.

John Crawford III was looking at a BB gun for sale in a Walmart.

Alton Sterling was selling DVDs.

Botham Jean was sitting in his apartment watching
TV.

Atatiana Jefferson was playing video games in her home.

Breonna Taylor was asleep in her own bed.

Sterling Higgins....called 911 himself during a mental health crisis.
