Pache trade

Pache was called up because AA was put in an absolute bind with the glut of OF injuries and lack of any other position players on the 40 man roster. He didn’t want to have to DFA anyone in order to bring up Schebler or sign Rafael Ortega back again.

Nah, it’s like they didn’t even want the fans to connect with him to me. The exact opposite with other high prospects brought up. I think it’s because he’s already been in trade discussions.

Think about it. They don’t even know if Cole comes back This year, they don’t know if they have Soroka to begin the year. They can’t give up Anderson (the only prospect that seems to have a chance to maybe make a difference as a starter). Who does that leave? Pache.

You realize that it's about winning games - not "connecting with fans", right?

AA has resisted the urge to trade Newk, Touki, Riley, Wright, Wilson, Pache, Waters, Anderson, Contreras, Langeliers, Davidson, and Muller. Several of those guys have completely fallen on their face to different degrees at the MLB-level. Not forcing Snitker to put Pache in the lineup for two nights has absolutely nothing to do with getting fans to connect with him. There aren't any fans in the park.

All those other names aren't (or weren't) thought of nearly as highly as Pache. None of those names - including Pache - remotely approach the level of prospect Acuna, Albies, or Soroka were. There was no projection involved with the three of them. None. They had proven so much by the time they were promoted that the organization had no choice other than to promote them - there were no more challenges for them other than at the highest level. They didn't need to prove they could hit or that they had a third pitch to keep hitters honest with, and their tools weren't going to improve if they hung out in Gwinnett for a couple weeks or couple months while playing against inferior competition. If they wanted to trade him, he'd have been gone last winter.

That hasn't been the case for ANY other prospects the Braves have or have traded away. Newk, Touki, Wright, and Wilson SHOULD be in Gwinnett - they were pushed aggressively and have clearly proven that they don't have what it takes to succeed at this level YET. Riley has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that the concerns some raised about his contact were entirely valid. The organization has repeatedly said that Pache's bat isn't quite ready. They think it will come in time with more development, but he's not there YET. They see him every day in batting practice and sim games that FANS don't get to see. I'm sorry, but those people are far more qualified to decide whether he's "ready" or not - and it has nothing to do with "connecting with fans".

They're guarding against having MLB pitching expose the holes that they already know exist before he gets a chance to close them because they don't want his value to tank like the other prospects' value has. The guys that have gotten multiple chances at this level now won't get you the types difference-maker they would have a year ago because they've proven they weren't quite ready. THAT is why Pache hasn't been penciled into the lineup instead of Ender and is why Anderson hasn't been tried in the rotation thus far. The organization that sees them every day doesn't think they're ready to be successful yet, and if they show the rest of the world that they're not it won't be nearly as interested in them either.

There's no hidden agenda here - they just don't think he's ready to play every day unless his ceiling is as a Gold Glove CF, and we've already got one of those that can't hit in the lineup. They want him to close those holes so he can play CF here for cheap for years - not because they want to trade him.

Need to keep posts to less people than 100 words if you want people to read them

Be happy to - just as soon as everyone here learns how to spell, the differences between your/you're, there/their/they're, etc., and uses correct punctuation.

TLDR recap...

Pache isn't a blue chipper like Acuna, Albies, or Soroka (and Swanson...my addition), and still needs time to develop in AAA. Early promotions of guys like Touki, Newk, Wright and Wilson led to them being exposed too early, and they suck now, and have no trade value. AA didn't want the rest of baseball to learn that Pache still can't hit, so didn't let him hit much, protecting his prospect value.

End TLDR recap....

I agree that Pache just isn't ready to be more than a backup right now, but I don't think him not playing has anything to do with protecting his trade value. Pache will probably be in CF in Atlanta as early as mid-2021. Everyone knows he can't hit yet, so it's not some secret being kept from the rest of MLB.

If he isn’t trading him...why would he be worried about his trade value. I don’t think he is looking to trade him, BUT if the right pitcher becomes available...he would.

...he isn't worried about his trade value? you're reading into things and making stuff up a bunch.

And I've lost so much sleep over that it's amazing.

I mean unless you intentionally want people to scroll by your posts then it’s sound advice.

I’ve never stopped reading a good post because of spelling errors.

Then again some people like their cucumbers picked .

You guys really can’t fathom why AA would be willing to trade an incredible defensive player (that has a questionable hit tool), at the absolute peak of his value (considering our starting pitching emergency). I’m afraid some of you guys (including me)...might be VERY disappointed next week.

If you don’t care that people skip over your novels then why even take the time to write them. I don’t think anyone is trying to be mean to you. Just saying you will get more response to a post if you trim them down by a few hundred words.

Name the best prospect AA has traded while running the Braves. Wentz?

Pache didn't play because he isn't very good right now, and the Braves are trying to win a title. Literally everyone in the game already knows he can't hit yet, and a few MLB games of PAs wouldn't change anyone's mind either way because nobody is dumb enough to base their opinion on such a small sample. Therefore, hiding him on the MLB bench for a week accomplishes exactly nothing.

It's pretty simple...Pache was here to backup CF because the Braves only had Ender. When Markakis is back, Pache will be gone. Pache is still the clear best prospect in the system, and it goes completely against everything AA has done with Atlanta (and his mentors, the Dodgers) to trade away potential impact prospects. I would bet any amount of money Pache is still a Brave next week.

We were not in the pickle we are now. Our rotation has been decimated. We are also fully a contender now and the rotation problem (given the failure of our pitching prospects), will linger into next year. If there was ever a time to make a big trade....this would be it. None of these Gausman “esk” retreads will make a difference long term.

As others have requested, please name a SP controlled long term who the Braves could potentially acquire with Pache to "make a difference long term".

Which proven pre-arb SP with several years of control is available? Which long term SP contract is available for trade?

Who exactly is AA going to buy with Pache to "make a difference long term" in the rotation?

The Indians? A contender with a poor offensive OF wants an OFer who can't hit yet? Who else has such a pitcher and wants a prospect?
