2020 Trade Deadline Thread

Preller in SD has won a few off seasons, and won a few trade deadlines....and nothing else in 5 seasons.

Now folks around here are heaping praise on him for adding to the MLB team because they want to see AA add to the Braves MLB team. It's always funny to read folks talk about how great a GM is when he's making a ton of trades. Let's talk about Preller in 2-3 years after we see how well SD is positioned.

AA is doing a fantastic job guiding this mid-market team to long-term contention. Anyone who can't see that is absolutely clueless.

Morosi: Sources: #Braves previously explored trading for #Mariners 3B Kyle Seager, but there is no present momentum toward a deal.

It’s always long term contention. Never in the present time. You can’t continue to push it off till next year. Eventually next year needs to be now. Such a cop out attitude.

bummer. if SP isn’t upgraded id really like to see a 3B added.
Riley along probably gets you Seager and cash.

The problem with Lynn or anyone else right now, imo, is thier salary owed this year.

I could be wrong but I think cash is an issue so Lynn isn't coming here unless the Rangers take on the remainder of his 2020 salary or a large portion of it. The same goes for anyone else. This of course would up what it would take to get them too.

we’ve been over this but “going for it”
is a joke and a farce. you need to put yourself in position to be competitive year after year as a mid market.

The stupid really rises to the surface during the trade deadline.

Go for it! Flags fly forever! It takes money to make money! The price is what someone is willing to pay! Supply and demand! Derp!!

All the moronic cliches come out in full force around this time haha.

Going for it this year is incredibly dumb. I wouldn't give up anything of value for a rental this season that doesn't have a pick attached to it.

Riley has a 124 WRC+ over the past 30 days compared to Seagers 115. AA playing the hot hand!

Riley likely isn't the long term answer, but his improvements (which are modest, but appear real) certainly make 3b much less of a priority than SP.

Given AA's likely financial constraints, I would much rather see him spend whatever resources he has on SPs than replacing Riley at 3b.

The Braves haven’t won a playoff series for 19 years. I guess I don’t know what competitive means.

I agree. If Riley had continued to be one of the worst hitters in baseball I think you'd see us looking at any kind of upgrade there. But his improvements have put that way way down the list if at all.

The clear issue is the SP right now. Here's hoping a team is willing to take pay some salary this year.

Starling Marte is great. Has a 12.5 MM option next year. Think he’s eligible to make 1 million the rest of the season. How can’t you take a chance on him.
