Some very late night Cowboys thoughts now that I've cooled off a bit:
*I've resigned myself to Jason Garrett being back in 2014. Next season though, playoffs or be gone. He's going to have the hottest seat of any coach in the NFL.
*Monte Kiffin has to be gone. While the defense did show up against the Eagles, for the most part this season, was awful. Terrible scheme all season.
*DeMarcus Ware sounded like after the game he was willing to take a pay cut. Hope he does. He didn't play this year to the rate his contract would justify paying him. It could help against the salary cap if he would take a cut.
*By the sounds after the game, I'm not counting on Jason Hatcher returning. He is looking to get paid and I don't think the Cowboys can afford to give him the contract he wants.
*Miles Austin's time in Dallas should be done. He's getting up there in years and was basically replaced as the #2 receiver by Terrance Williams and even Cole Beasley passed him.
*There were times he drove me crazy, but Dez Bryant continues to show he can be a top notch receiver. Pro Bowl selection showed that. Hopefully he can keep his head on straight. He does that, there is no limit to his ability.
*Offensive line actually got better as the season went along. Got to give them their due on that
*Cannot screw up the draft this year. Need to address DT, S, DE, OG, and OLB to be sure. The Cowboys have to hit each pick right.
*I was surprised to see Kyle Orton had another year on his deal (thought he was a FA after this season). He showed me that he can be relied on if he would be needed next season. Yeah he had two picks, but only one you can say was his fault.
*As much as I like and stand behind Tony Romo as the Cowboys QB, the time is just about now to start thinking about life after him. Jones said a high draft pick will not be used on a QB. I agree with not using one in the first round, but it has to be addressed soon. Romo will be 34 at the start of next season, the exact age Troy Aikman was forced to retire. A lot of people thought it was concussions that forced Aikman to retire, but it was back injuries. Tony Romo coming off a significant back injury at 34 is a bit of a scary proposition. If A.J. McCarron, Zach Mettenberger, or someone like that is available in the second round, I'd think about it.
