10/15/20 GDT: NLCS game 4 Dodgers “@“ Braves

Pretty ok with starting Minter. I wonder whether they'll got to a long man afterwards or try to use a bunch of guys.

probably depends on score. Tomlin is ready if we get behind 3-5 runs. You pull out and let Tomlin go IMO.

If it's a 2 run game or we have the lead then we use our best guys and see if we can finish the deal.

I feel good about any game started by Max or Ian, but I don't want to lean on that. Especially if the Pen is cooked from a bunch of games in a row, including a pen game.

I could see Minter going 2, maybe have Wright set up for 2 or 3 after him depending on score and effectiveness. At that point it's all situational. If it's close after 5 we might see it played more aggressively. If we're down big, we give our big arms some rest. If we're up big, we step on their throats and rest up for the Series.

Agreed.

As thrilling as last night was (still is? I'm still watching replays), this Dodgers team is still scary. If they're in a good spot after five, I look for that aggressive bullpen-management approach you mention. I have faith in Fried and Anderson, but it'd be really nice to not even get to that point.

Dustin May has pitched a maximum of 6 IP this season (thrice, and none since his 28 August start), but averaged much lower than that; he's been used in the bullpen throughout the postseason, and only in short stints.

The Braves have murdered bullpens all year long, and been particularly rough on the Dodgers' relief corps (somebody over at TC cited an average EV of ~93mph and woba around .490).

The key then seems to be driving up May's pitch-count, making him work, and getting into the pen early—and/or making Roberts think about deploying Buehler (or Gonsolin) earlier than their projected starts, not letting him keep much powder dry.

On the Braves side, we've hashed the pitching moves enough—Minter through Bellinger, hopefully, and then potentially Wright for bulk, then matchups. On the hitting side, we need to make this essentially a bullpen game for both teams.

Dodgers are definitely in a tough spot. May has to provide innings tonight and dominate. They cannot afford for him to have a short outing. If he does, it puts that much more stress on their pen for a game 6 if they were to win

They essentially have to play 3 perfect games. I like our chances.

Just want to say this about Wilson’s start last night. I don’t know how his stuff is gonna play out for him over his career. That being said the kid has officially shown that no moment is too big for him and that’s a huge deal.

Ozzie's slide into home last night was hilarious. $2 to anyone who can produce a GIF, $1 for a still frame
