It's worth remembering that these aren't just deaths, they're especially horrible deaths. Days or weeks alone in a room without the touch of human skin or seeing a person's smiling face (unless you're lucky enough to have access to a phone in the ICU). Spending your last days with about 10 tubes stuck in you, including a catheter, and sensing both the air and life slowly being squeezed out of you.
The doctors and nurses in charge of these patients may as well be in a war zone. They're gonna need a lot of time off when this is over and likely a ton of counseling. They've been on the front lines for months already and the worst is still to come.
