The Coronavirus, not the beer

Yes. Data can take 1 to 8 weeks to show up and it states that specifically on their page. The number they are going off of is the weekly number they put out at that time. So through week 44 (oct 20th to be precise) there was 300K more deaths in 2020 than through week 44 of 2019. The 2019 data you posted counts all revisions. Its apples to oranges man.

Thank you for the clarification. I’d be interested to see where the results land.

People acting even crazier since they announced the vaccine. Wish they would've waited until it was ready to be released to the general public before announcing it...cause people are acting like it is already available. This is going to be an UGLY couple months.

Crede Bailey, the director of the White House security office, was the most severely ill among dozens of Covid-19 cases known to be connected to the White House. Bailey’s family has asked the White House not to publicize his condition, and President Donald Trump has never publicly acknowledged his illness.

Bailey’s friends have raised more than $30,000 for his rehabilitation through a GoFundMe account. The White House declined to say whether Trump has contributed to the effort.

“Crede beat COVID-19 but it came at a significant cost: his big toe on his left foot as well as his right foot and lower leg had to be amputated,” Dawn McCrobie, who organized the GoFundMe effort for Bailey, wrote Dec. 7.

Bailey is now at a rehabilitation center and will be fitted for a prosthetic leg in the coming months, she wrote.

“His family has staggering medical bills from a hospital stay of 2+ months and still counting in the ICU and a long road ahead in rehab before he can go home,” McCrobie wrote Nov. 13, when she created the account. “When he does make it home there will be major changes necessary to deal with his new, and permanent, disability.”

Staggering bills from the ICU? There's going to be an out of pocket maximum. The totals might be staggering but the guys federal employee health insurance will cover it nearly all of it.

That being said, he'll no doubt have financial problems elsewhere. Lost income, outfitting his house to accommodate his disability (if necessary), mental healthcare, etc.

It's a sad story. Sad enough it doesn't need embellishment.

I don't get the financial aspect of it. I would think someone who works in the White House would be pretty well taken care of as far as health insurance goes. But maybe he chose a plan with high co-pays and deductibles. I remember getting paperwork a few years ago when a family member had a hospital stay with some scary big numbers, but it said THIS IS NOT A BILL. In the end my insurance ended up taking care of almost of all of it.

The article does mention the need for renovations at his house to accommodate his disability and also a new vehicle that will do same.

I am surprised nobody lifted a finger to comment on Cuomo sexual harassment accusations.

I guess agenda > sense.

Speaking of Cuomo, maybe it's time to look at a NY and FL again. Maybe someone on here can lecture me on how the super sciency state continues to have vastly worse outcomes than the dumb rednecks down south who are choosing liberty over perpetual lock downs and face muzzles?

Gotta figure that with the way this virus is so devastating on the vulnerable that 2021 deaths will be down compared to previous year. In my theory, deaths that would've occurred next year without covid were moved up to this year.

That's a very simplistic look. It's not one year. It has a longer effect than that. Say someone who has diabetes who could have lived for 10 years or more dies of COVID, they wouldn't necessarily have died in 2021

it'll be something to watch...it could also be that some of the people who survived will also die sooner because of lingering health problems

i wonder if Keyontae Johnson's heart was damaged by covid

With respect to New York and Florida, the thing I would note is that New York had 18,610 deaths by the end of April. It has learned a lot since that first wave and the number of deaths since the end of April is 9,258

Since the end of April, Florida has had 18,635 deaths. More than twice as many as New York.

In the past 7 days, Florida has had 721 deaths. New York 638.

So yeah, NY has more overall covid deaths. But this is entirely due to that devastating first wave. Since then the numbers are better than Florida. And continue to be better as recently as the past 7 days.

Their hospitalizations and deaths are similar during the 2nd wave.

But their approaches are WILDLY different.

One might wonder if NY approach is actually making a difference? Where is the evidence that it is making any difference at all?

And Wyoming has done a fantastic job battling terrorism. New York couldn't even stop 9/11

yeah...its kind of silly not to take into account things like how intense and early that first attack was in NY than florida...the fact that NY (well NY city in particular) is much more densely populated...and the fact NY has a more northerly latitude and a longer season when people are mostly indoors...otoh florida has more seniors...there is a lot to take into account when evaluating which state did a better job holding down deaths
